Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter from the luminous day of the Hilula* of Rabbi Shimon ben Yochai (see note 2). Thank Hashem*, you have finally succeeded in obtaining the saplings (see note 3). According to the letter I have just received from the Holy Land (see note 4), these have already been planted, but I do not have all the necessary details. I would like to know, as far as you are concerned, in what manner you sealed these saplings, or whether, for example, you sent them by mail.

I am surprised that you say nothing about what concerns the city (see note 5), apart from two words: "Everything is fine" — an expression that is customarily used when one does nothing, or, at a higher level, when one does indeed observe the principle "Turn away from evil" but does nothing to put into practice the injunction "Do good." You will therefore consult chapter 30 of the Tanya*, which says: "What difference is there between 'Turn away from evil' and 'Do good'? Is all of this not a commandment of the holy and unique King, blessed be He?"

Since we are discussing all of this, I will also address you regarding another point about which, it seems, nothing has been done either. This concerns outreach to women. I enclose a copy of one of my letters on this subject. These days are propitious, as this letter explains, and it is therefore surely unnecessary to say more.

במענה על מכתבו מיום הבהיר הילולא דרשב"י. - הנה ת"ל אשר סו"ס בא לפועל הענין דלקיחת שתילים וכפי המכתב שקבלתי עתה מאה"ק ת"ו כבר נטעו אותם, אף שעדיין איני יודע עד"ז בפרטיות הדרושה, ואתענין לדעת מצדו באיזה אופן סגרו וחתמו על השתילים או שלחום ע"י הבי דואר וכיו"ב וכו'.

לפלא שע"ד עניני העיר אינו כותב כלום מלבד שתי המלות הכל שלום אשר הורגלו כזה לכתוב גם ע"ד מצב דהעדר פעולות או באופן נעלה יותר כשהוא כדבעי בהקו דסור מרע אף שאין נעשה בהקו דועשה טוב, ועיין תניא פרק ל' ומה לי בחי' סור מרע ומה לי בחי' ועשה טוב הכל היא מצות המלך הקדוש יחיד ומיוחד ב"ה.

וכיון דאתאן להכא, באתי על עוד ענין שכנראה גם לא הותחל עד"ז והוא הפעולה בין הנשים, ומוסג"פ העתק מאחד ממכתבי בזה, והרי עתה הם ימי סגולה וכמבואר גם במכתבי זה, והאריכות בזה אך למותר.
