To the youth leaders of the Chabad* Association

in our Holy Land, chapter of Tel Aviv,

may Hashem* grant you long life,

Greetings and blessings,

After a particularly long interruption, I have duly received your letter of 22 Iyar*, with what it contained. May Hashem* grant that in the future, the success of your sacred mission increase, and that you carry it out with joy and enthusiasm. In that case, the success will be even greater.

Indeed, various texts of Chassidus* emphasize the effect of joy in the Mitzvah*. One also finds an allusion to this in the saying cited by Chassidus* that "joy breaks through all boundaries."

And these days are propitious for this, since they prepare for the giving of the Torah*. At the revelation at Sinai, they said: "We will do and then we will understand." There was in this the mark of a great love (see note 1) and, say our Sages*: "He turned the mountain over them like a barrel" (see note 2). Moreover, Avraham called it "mountain," as the Torah Or* explains when commenting on Megillas Esther*, page 96d.

However, one can raise an objection against the giving of the Torah* in this manner, since the mountain was turned over against them (see note 3). This is not the case in our days, when the initiative is taken by people (see note 4).

I enclose a copy of my letter addressed to all (see note 5), which is intended for the Nshei* and Bnos* Chabad*, but in the content of which you will surely find points that you can use for your own sacred mission.

On the occasion of the festival of Shavuos*, which is approaching, may we all, within all of Israel, according to the expression of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, receive it with joy and in a profound manner.

I am surprised that the students of the Yeshivah*, during their visit to Jerusalem, did not also visit the schools of the network (see note 6).

לאחרי ההפסק הכי ארוך נתקבל מכתבם מכ"ב אייר עם המוסגר בו, ויה"ר שמכאן ולהבא תתרבה ההצלחה בעבודתם בקדש ויעבדו בה בשמחה ובטוב לבב, שגם עי"ז תתוסף ההצלחה עוד יותר, וכמובן ע"פ המבואר בדא"ח בכ"מ פעולת שמחה של מצוה ומרומז ג"כ בהפתגם המובא בדא"ח שמחה פורץ גדר, והרי מסוגלים ימים אלו דהכנה למתן תורה להאמור, שהרי במ"ת הקדימו נעשה לנשמע והי' זה מאהבה רבה וכתוכן מרז"ל כפה עליהם הר כגיגית, אברהם שקראו הר (תו"א למגילת אסתר, צ"ו ד') אלא שאז מודעא רבה לאורייתא כי כפה עליהם, משא"כ בזמננו הרי זה נעשה בדרך אתעדל"ת.
