To my close relative, the eminent Rav*, the distinguished Chassid* who

fears Hashem* and devotes himself to communal needs,

Rav* Gershon (see note 1) and his wife, Rebbetzin* Gessya,

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter from the eve of Shabbos*. You make reference to the event at Kfar Chabad* (see note 2). I have already written to several Chassidim* that the words of our holy masters are eternal and immutable. They cannot be separated from their plain meaning. All the more so can one not consider that they are addressed to other people and not to the one who cannot accept them.

In this case, the teaching of our masters is very clear. It is in that place that the Attribute of Mercy will be revealed — superior to that of goodness which precedes it — an inheritance without limit, extending from one extreme to the other.

All those — men and women — to whom Hashem* has granted the strength to influence others must therefore not only comfort the inhabitants of the Kfar*, but also set an example for them in this regard, in accordance with their situation.

If you meditate upon all of this, you will surely find the words that will enable you to act in this world.

I will mention, at an auspicious moment, the names of all those you cite, at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us. May Hashem* grant that you soon announce to me good news of all of this.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבם מעש"ק, ובמ"ש אודות המאורע בכפר חב"ד, הנה כבר כתבתי לכמה מאנ"ש אשר דברי נשיאנו רבוה"ק חיים וקיימים לעד, ואינם יוצאים מידי פשוטם, ועאכו"כ שאין מקום לפירוש שהדברים אמורים בנוגע לאחרים אבל לא לזה שאין הדבר מתקבל בשכלו, ובכגון דא הוראת רבותנו ברורה היא, אשר במקום זה תתגלה מדת הרחמים שהיא גדולה ממדת החסד שלפני' נחלה בלי מצרים מבריח מן הקצה אל הקצה, ועל כל אחד ואחת אשר חוננו השי"ת בכח השפעה לא רק לחזק רוח תושבי הכפר אלא להראות גם דוגמא בזה מתאים למעמדו ומצבו, וכשיתבונן בודאי ימצא הדברים והאותיות שיוכל לפעול בכיוון זה...

בעת רצון אזכיר את כל אלו שכותבים אודותם על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, ויה"ר שיבשרו טוב בכל האמור ובקרוב ממש.
