Rav* Shalom DovBer (see note 1), the Shochet*,

Greetings and blessings,

I received your letter from the day of the Hilula* of Rabbi Shimon ben Yochai (see note 2), which came after a long silence. I read with pleasure that you teach your class in accordance with the tradition of our ancestors: "Kamatz Aleph A" (see note 3).

You know the sanctity of the letters and the vowel signs that were given to Moshe at Mount Sinai (see note 4), as is clearly established in various passages of the Zohar* and the Tikkunei Zohar*. Moreover, this sanctity applies also to the names of these letters and these signs. Indeed, it is explained that these names are composed of the initials of the names of the angels.

לאחרי שתיקתו הארוכה נתקבל מכתבו מיום הבהיר הילולא דרשב"י, ונהניתי לקרות בו שלומד עם כתה כפי מסורת אבותינו הק' קמ"ץ אל"ף א, וכידוע קדושת האותיות והנקודות שהם למשה מסיני, וכמובן ופשוט בזהר ובתקו"ז בכמה מקומות, ולא רק האותיות ונקודות עצמן אלא אפילו שמותיהם, וכמובא שם ששמות הנקודות הם ראשי תיבות שמות מלאכים וכו'...
