Greetings and blessings,
I am responding to your letter of 12 Iyar*. I thank you for the good news that constitutes the improvement of your Torah* study. No doubt you will not content yourself with this. You will intensify it to the full extent of your means. Chassidus*, in particular the holy Tanya*, explains that the greatest good, once one becomes accustomed to it, becomes natural. From that point on, it is no longer considered an effort at all, and one must therefore make an addition. You will consult Chapter 15 of the Tanya*, which presents all of this in a relatively developed manner.
You ask me whether a Chassidic* text should be reviewed multiple times. This is indeed the case, just as for all the other parts of the Torah*. And just as, with regard to them, one progresses in study and does not content oneself with review alone, the same is true for Chassidus*. In fact, what the Alter Rebbe* states on this subject in his Laws of Torah Study, Chapter 2, paragraph 5, applies equally to the revealed part of the Torah* and to Chassidus*.
You ask me for a study program for Chassidus*. You will consult, on this matter, the elder Chassidim* in your surroundings. They will guide you. Moreover, the same applies to the study of the revealed part of the Torah*.
You ask me whether you should listen to the stories told by a certain person who claims to be a disciple of another person, whereas, from what you observe, he has no current connection whatsoever with Chabad*. I am surprised that you ask me such a question. If this man has no connection with Chabad*, it is quite obvious that you will not draw closer to Chabad* through his intermediary — quite the contrary.
As you request, I will mention your name at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us, so that you obtain what you write. May Hashem* grant that you share good news.
I am astonished that you say nothing of your activities in the framework of the youth of the Chabad* association. No doubt you are active in this area, and from time to time, you even increase your involvement. You will surely provide me with these details at the next opportunity.
With my blessing,
On behalf of the Rebbe Shlita*,
The secretary
You mention the booklet entitled "The order of review and memorization." Not everyone is the same in this regard, and the benefit therefore varies according to each person's memory.
