Greetings and blessings,
I am responding to your undated letter, in which you tell me what happened to you when boarding a ship while you were in Italy, on a Friday, the eve of the holy Shabbos* (see note 1). You ask me how to rectify what occurred (see note 2).
You must acquire a thorough knowledge of the laws of Shabbos*, at least those that are commonly applicable, in particular according to what is stated at the end of the Kuntres Acharon*: "A good counsel in this regard is..." (see note 3).
You inform me of the date of your birthday. On that occasion, you will surely observe the practices that have recently been adopted by the Chassidim* (see note 4). May Hashem* grant that you have a year of success in the study of the Torah* and the observance of the Mitzvos*, in the best possible manner.

במענה על מכתבו - בלי הוראת זמן הכתיבה - בו כותב אודות מה שאירע לו בענין העלי' על האני' בעת היותו באיטליא ביום ו' עש"ק ושואל תיקון בזה.
הנה עליו להשתדל להיות בקי בהלכות שבת עכ"פ באלו הצריכות, ובפרט ע"פ המבואר בקונטרס אחרון בסופו, לזאת עצה היעוצה וכו'.
ולהודעתו מיום ההולדת שלו, הנה בטח ינהג במנהגי יום הולדת כפי שנהגו אנ"ש בזמן האחרון, והשי"ת יתן שתהי' אצלו שנת הצלחה בלימוד התורה ובקיום המצות בהידור.
