To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*,
Rav* Aryeh (see note 1) HaLevi,
Greetings and blessings,
I am responding to your letter, in which you mention the event at Kfar Chabad* (see note 2). You have no doubt been informed of what I have written to several Chassidim*. It is regarding this that our Sages* say: "What is hidden before Hashem*..." (see note 3).
As for the teaching that results from this for one's conduct, in order to carry out the mission incumbent upon a person engaged in the service of Hashem*, each one must meditate sincerely and draw the conclusion from all of this.
In my view, this teaching is the following. It is necessary to strengthen the Kfar* in general and its institutions in particular. This strengthening must contribute to their development and expansion, for "it is there that Hashem* has commanded the blessing, for eternity." As our holy master (see note 4) indicates in his Derech Mitzvosecha*, page 114b, it is in this place that the Attribute of Mercy will be revealed — stronger than that of goodness which precedes it, an inheritance without limit, extending from one extreme to the other.
With my blessing for an improvement in your state of health, and to share good news, with the breadth of spirit just described,

במענה על מכתבו, בו מזכיר ע"ד המאורע בכפר חב"ד, ובודאי כבר ידוע לו מה שכתבתי לכמה מאנ"ש, אשר אף שבענינים כגון אלו אמרו רז"ל בהדי כבשי דרחמנא כו', אבל בהנוגע להלימוד בהנהגה ולהוראות במילוי תפקיד האדם בעבודת השי"ת, צריך כל אחד להתבונן אליבא דנפשי' ולהסיק המסקנא, ולדעתי בענין זה היא, אשר מוכרח לחזק הכפר בכללות והמוסדות שם ביחוד, וההתחזקות בכגון דא היא גם בהתפשטות והתרחבות כי שם ציוה ה' את הברכה עד העולם, וכהוראת נשיאנו הק' (דרך מצותיך דף קי"ד ע"ב) אשר שם - במקום זה תתגלה מדת הרחמים שהיא גדולה ממדת החסד שלפני' נחלה בלי מצרים מבריח מן הקצה אל הקצה.
