After an interruption, I received your letter of 11 Iyar*, informing me of good news — the improvement of your state of health. May Hashem* grant that it improve even further, not only physically but also morally, although you make no allusion whatsoever to this domain in your letter.

Obviously, this also includes all the actions you carry out toward your fellow, especially during the auspicious days, the festivals, and the special dates that are approaching, for the sake of peace.

In general, the wording (see note 1) you communicate to me in your letter is good. Nevertheless, perhaps it is preferable to replace the words "on the eve of Yom Kippur*" with "on the eve of the holy day." Indeed, this is a better sign (see note 2), as the Tractate Kesubos* 103b emphasizes.

1. Of the epitaph to be inscribed on the tombstone of someone who passed away on the eve of Yom Kippur*.

לאחרי ההפסק - נתקבל מכתבו מי"א אייר מבשר טוב מהטבת מצב בריאותו. ויה"ר עס זאל גיין פון גוט צו נאך בעסער, ולא רק בענינים הגשמים אלא גם בענינים הרוחניים, אף שאינו מזכיר עד"ז במכתבו זה. ומובן שבזה נכללות גם הפעולות בהנוגע להזולת, ובפרט בימי הסגולה מועדים ורגלים ויומי דפגרא הבאים לקראתנו לשלום.

הנוסח שמסגיר במכתבו, בכלל נכון הוא, אלא שצ"ע אולי כדאי להחליף הלשון ערב יוכ"פ בלשון ערב יום הקדוש, כיון שזהו סימן טוב יותר (עיין כתובות קג, ב).
