Greetings and blessings,
After a long silence, I received your letter from the 19th day of the Omer* (see note 1) — La Omer* (see note 2), according to the formulation of the Alter Rebbe* (see note 3) in his holy Siddur*. Indeed, you are aware of the discussion that exists on this matter, and you will also consult, on the same subject, Iggeres HaKodesh*, at the end of Chapter 13.
As you request, I will mention your name and that of your wife at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us, so that you obtain the fulfillment of your needs.
You tell me in your letter that you study the holy Tanya* and, to some extent, the Likkutei Torah*, as was requested of you in 5672 (see note 4). Now, many years have elapsed since then, and it is therefore clear that this is by no means sufficient. Indeed, our Torah* requires elevation in the domain of holiness, and according to some opinions, this principle is introduced by the Torah* itself (see note 5). Even if one accepts that it is an institution of the Sages*, as the Alter Rebbe* states in his pure Shulchan Aruch*, Orach Chaim*, end of Chapter 34, it is known that the words of the Sages* are "more imperative" and "more agreeable" than those of the Torah*.
In the future, you will therefore add to all of this, and without doubt, Hashem* will fulfill His promise that "to whoever adds (see note 6), more is added (see note 7)."
You surely participate in the gatherings of the Chassidim*, and "great is the shared meal, which brings people together" — which unites the children of Israel and draws down Divine blessings in a considerable manner, as it is said: "Bless us, our Father, all as one, by the light of Your Countenance." You will consult, in particular, Chapter 32 of the Tanya* and the Sefer HaMitzvos* of the Tzemach Tzedek*, regarding the Mitzvah* of loving one's fellow.
With my blessing,
M. Schneerson
You ask me about the statement of the Sefer HaMitzvos* of the Tzemach Tzedek*, regarding the Mitzvah* of counting the Omer*, Chapter 2, according to which Moshiach* will be more exalted than Moshe (see note 8). Indeed, the Rambam* states, in Chapter 9 of his Laws of Teshuvah*, that he will be "a prophet close to Moshe, our master."
In reality, the Sefer HaMitzvos* merely repeats what is clearly stated by the Midrash Tanchuma*, on Parshas* Toldos: "He will be more exalted than Moshe," in accordance with the version of this text that should be retained, which also appears in the Yalkut Shimoni*, on Yeshayahu*.
One can therefore consider that the statement of the Rambam* concerns only prophecy, as it is said: "No prophet has arisen..." (see note 9). You will also consult his Laws of the Foundations of the Torah*, Chapter 7. You will also see the Likkutei Torah* of the Arizal*, regarding the verse "until Shiloh comes" (see note 10), Tractate Menachos* 29b, and the Likkutei Torah* of the Alter Rebbe*, at the end of Shir HaShirim*. This point will not be elaborated upon here.

4. 1912, apparently by the Rebbe Rashab*.
5. And not by the Sages*. See, regarding this, Letters no. 1239, 1527, 1968, and 4459.
6. An effort — in this case, additional time for the study of Chassidus*.
7. Blessings.

9. In Israel, like Moshe.
