Greetings and blessings,
I received with pleasure your letter, in which you tell me that Divine Providence brought you to meet a Torah* scholar. He awakened your Jewish feelings which, as our Sages* of blessed memory say, are always on the alert for the Holy One, blessed be He, His Torah*, and His Mitzvos*.
Nevertheless, it is quite clear that a fleeting feeling is not sufficient. It must be extended into the following days and into daily life. Indeed, it is necessary, every day, to act, to accomplish what is good, so that one's days not be empty and bare.
For this is precisely what makes man superior to the animal, which merely eats and drinks. This man is chosen from among all creatures. He possesses an intellectual soul and a Divine soul, which must illuminate his surroundings. How much more so must he do so through "the candle (which) is a Mitzvah* and the Torah* (which) is a light." If one truly wills it, nothing can withstand the will, and one achieves success.

נעם לי לקבל מכתבו בו כותב אשר ההשגחה העליונה הפגישה אותו עם החכם...
ועורר בו הרגשי איש הישראלי אשר כמאמר חכמינו זכרונם לברכה, ער הוא הקב"ה לתורתו ומצותיו, ומובן ופשוט שאין מספיקה כלל התעוררות לפי שעה אלא שצריך להמשיכה גם בימים שאחרי זה ובחיי היום יומים, כי הרי בכל יום ויום צריך לפעול ולעשות דבר טוב שלא יהיו ימים ערטילאין וערומים, והרי זהו יתרון האדם על הבהמה שאין לה אלא אכילה ושתי' וכיוצא בזה, מה שאין כן האדם בחיר הבריאה אשר נפש שכלית לו ונפש אלקית לו שצריך להאיר סביבתו, ועל אחת כמה וכמה את עצמו בנר מצוה ותורה אור, וכשרוצים באמת אין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון ומצליחים בזה...
