Greetings and blessings,
I am responding to your letter.
You must recite the Shema Yisrael* scrupulously before going to sleep (see note 1). During your sleep, you should also wear your Tallis Katan* (see note 2). You will check its Tzitzis* to make sure they are kosher* — that each one indeed has eight threads.
Before the Shema Yisrael* of bedtime, with the exception of Shabbos* and the festivals, you will note down what was lacking in your studies of the day, which will enable you not to forget to make it up the next day.
If you do all of this, you will lie down without fear and your sleep will be pleasant.
With my blessing,
On behalf of the Rebbe Shlita*,
The secretary
(Notes in the original:
1. The recipient of this letter is apparently a child who asked the Rebbe* for a blessing to overcome nighttime anxieties.
2. For the purpose of protection, even though the Mitzvah* of Tzitzis* does not apply at night.)
