To Mr. Shneur Zalman (see note 1),

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter of 13 Nissan*. On this occasion, I reiterate my warm thanks for the manuscripts of Chassidic* discourses that reached me through your son. May the merit of all those who will benefit (see note 2) from the light of the Torah* concealed in these manuscripts — containing discourses that are as yet unpublished — protect your son and your entire family, enabling each one to obtain the fulfillment of his needs.

This also includes, in accordance with our discussion with your son, the necessity for himself — who brought these manuscripts — for his parents, and for his entire family, to be among those who study this commentary, an integral part of our Torah*, and to devote themselves to it. It is said regarding the Torah* in general: "Great is study, which leads to action." Moreover, the merit of your ancestors and your origins will come to your aid so that you achieve even greater success in this matter.

I extend greetings to your entire family, and I conclude as I began, by thanking you for the manuscripts you have sent and for those you are sending now.
