Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter from the middle of winter (see note 1). I have not received further news from you on this matter, and I therefore have good hope that you are continuing your studies at the Yeshivah*, that from time to time you are strengthening your interest in this endeavor, and that consequently, you are reinforcing your decision to continue these studies, at least for the period I recommended in my previous letter (see note 2).

You tell me that you do not intend to be a Rav* and that you do not possess the capacities necessary for this. It is not for this purpose that I asked you to continue your studies. One does not go to a Yeshivah* to become a Rav*, but rather to become a Jew worthy of the name.

In our era of moral mixture and confusion, when light passes for darkness and darkness for light, when winds blowing through the world run counter to genuine Judaism, each man and each woman must protect oneself to the fullest extent possible. The place to do so is within the four cubits of the Torah* and of prayer.

I have good hope that if you remain within these four cubits during this period, you will be able, with the help of Hashem*, to overcome the external currents and adopt a genuine and traditional way of life.

You are surely strengthening yourself in the observance of the three well-known daily studies covering the Chumash*, Tehillim*, and Tanya*. In addition to this, you have a fixed study session in Chassidus*. May Hashem* enable you to share good news.

שלום וברכה!

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מאמצע החורף, וכיון שלא קבלתי ממנו עוד ידיעות בזה, תקותי חזקה שממשיך בלימודו בישיבה ומזמן לזמן נתחבב עליו הדבר יותר ויותר, אשר בדרך ממילא מתחזקת אצלו ההחלטה להמשיך בלימודים אלו לכל הפחות משך אותו הזמן שיעצתיו במכתבי הקודם, ומה שכותב שאין בדעתו להיות רב וכיו"ב וגם אין מוכשר לזה, הנה לא זה הי' טעמי שילמוד עוד הזמן שכתבתי לו בישיבה דוקא בכדי שיהי' רב, אלא בכדי שיהי' יהודי מתאים לתוכן תואר זה ובתקופתנו זו תקופ[ת] ערבוב ובלבול המוחות אשר שמים אור לחשך וחשך לאור, רוחות אי מצוית נגד היהדות האמיתית מנשבות בעולם, צריך כל אחד ואחת לחסן את עצמו בכל הדרוש, והמקום לזה בד' אמות של תורה ובד' אמות של תפלה, ותקותי שכשישאר בד' אמות אלו משך הזמן הנ"ל הרי בעזר השי"ת יוכל לעמוד איתן נגד הנחשולים אשר בחוץ ולהנהיג עצמו באורח חיים אמיתי מסורתי.

בודאי מתחזק בשמירת שלשת השיעורים חומש תהלים ותניא הידועים ויש לו נוסף על זה שיעור קבוע בלימוד תורת החסידות, והשי"ת יצליחו לבשר טוב.
