To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav* Chaim Zusya (see note 1),

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter, which you began writing on 3 Adar* and which followed a long silence. I am surprised to observe that you omit certain points, perhaps because other people are handling them. You know what I have asked of the Chassidim*. They must not only write to me what they know, but also invite the other leaders to do the same, each in his own domain.

You mention the need to increase the number of students at the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* and, more generally, at the Chabad* schools. This is even more important than one imagines. And I have already written several times that one must take advantage now, for very soon, students will be sought with candles and there will be disputes over obtaining them! Hundreds of students are therefore currently being lost to the Chabad* schools, solely through negligence, through lack of attention to what is most obvious, most apparent, most emphasized.

You make reference to the association of Yeshivah* students. I have already answered this question, and may Hashem* grant that my words be followed by results. Although you do not mention it, I hope that you took a photograph of the meeting of the Merkaz LeInyonei Chinuch* (see note 2), that you recorded the presentations or, at the very least, that you will do so now. You will therefore be able to disseminate all of this, in the appropriate manner, when I see the text and you make proposals on this subject. Perhaps it would be good to publish a brochure, or a Bitaon* (see note 3), or a Kovetz* (see note 4), here.

The considerable delay in the construction of the Mikveh* (see note 5) is dreadful and painful. I do not know what else can be done about this.

You mention your personal work. You must devote yourself entirely to the dissemination (see note 6). Nevertheless, you must also encourage all those who can act in other areas. Encouragement worthy of the name must be immediately followed by a question: What has actually been accomplished? And one poses this question again the next day, and then once more the day after. In this way, one ultimately succeeds.

The request for a blessing in your letter will be read, at an auspicious time, at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us. May Hashem* grant that you share good news.

לאחרי שתיקתו הארוכה נתקבל מכתבו שהתחיל לכותבו ג' אדר, בו כותב על איזה מהענינים, ולפלא שהשמיט ענינים אחדים, ואפשר הטעם מפני שאחרים התעסקו בזה, וכבר ידועה בקשתי לאנ"ש אשר נוסף על מה שכותבים הם מצדם בהנודע להם, נכון שיעוררו לשאר העסקנים שיודיע כאו"א במקצוע שלו...

במ"ש אודות הנחיצות להרבות מספר התלמידים בתומכי תמימים ובכלל במוסדות חינוך חב"ד, הוא נחוץ עוד הרבה יותר מאשר משערים, וכבר כתבתי כ"פ בזה שצריכים אריינחאפען, כי כעבור זמן קצר יחפשו תלמידים-ות מיט ליכט, און מען וועט רייסין זיך איבער זיי, ובמילא מאבדים עתה הזדמנות להוסיף מאות תלמידים במוסדות חינוך חב"ד, ורק מפני רשלנות והעדר שימת לב אפילו לענינים הפשוטים ביותר מודגשים ומובלטים.

במ"ש אודות שאלת את"ה, כבר ענו ע"ז, ויה"ר שיבוא לפו"מ. תקותי אף שאינו מזכיר עד"ז, שעשו פאטא מכנוס דעניני מל"ח, וכן נרשמו הדבורים או עכ"פ ירשמו אותם עתה, ובמילא יוכלו לפרסם עד"ז באופן המתאים ולאחרי שאראה החומר ואקבל הצעות עד"ז, אפשר כדאי להדפיסו שיהי' בציור חוברת או להדפיס בבטאון או בקובץ דכאן...

מבהיל ומצער מה שמתארך כ"כ ענין בניית המקוה, ואיני יודע מה עוד אפשר לעשות בזה.

במ"ש אודות עבודתו הוא ביחוד הנה צריך הי' להתעסק ראשו ורובו בענין ההפצה, אבל ביחד עם זה לעורר את כל השייכים לעסקנות הדרושה ומתאימה בכל שאר הענינים, והתעוררות כדבעי פירושה, אשר כעבור זמן קצר מההתעוררות באים ושואלים ודורשים מה נעשה בזה, ולמחר עוה"פ ולמחרתיים עוד הפעם, ואשר אז סוכ"ס פועלים.
