To my relative, the Rav*, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav* Shmuel (see note 1), the Shochet*,
Greetings and blessings,
I have duly received your list of participants in the Maamad* (see note 2), dated Rosh Chodesh* Adar*. I am surprised not to have had news from you since then. This surely means that everything is well, and the same is true for the members of your family.
But may Hashem* grant that you not be content with this, and that you put into practice the injunction of ascending in matters of holiness. And may the promise of our Sages* be fulfilled in you: "To whoever adds (see note 3), it is added (see note 4)."
Moreover, you bring the Torah* and the Mitzvos* to others, particularly to those who possess nothing on their own. In such a case, Hashem* acts "measure for measure" (see note 5), but in a greatly increased manner, for the one who makes this effort and for all the members of his family.
Before Hashem*, each person is as though he possessed nothing on his own. And these days are auspicious, as was demonstrated during one of the Chassidic* gatherings (see note 6). The month of reflection (see note 7) possesses a particular virtue compared to all the other months of the year. For each of its days introduces a specific Mitzvah* — that of the counting of the Omer*.
In general, this counting addresses the animal, since the Omer* is a measure of barley, which is animal food. Its purpose is to elevate it toward the human, corresponding to the two loaves offered on Shavuos*, which are made of wheat flour — a human food — as explained in the Chassidic* discourses commenting on the counting of the Omer*, particularly in Likkutei Torah*.
With my blessing to share good news regarding all of this, about yourself and about each of the Chassidim* of your city,
