To the great Rav*, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav* Mordechai (see note 1) HaCohen,

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter of Isru Chag* Pesach*. Although you do not say so, I have good hope that you made use of the time of our freedom to strengthen what pertains to Judaism in your city and to disseminate it.

In accordance with the teaching (see note 2) of the Baal Shem Tov* that we heard, many times, from my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us: "Everything a Jew sees or hears conveys to him an instruction for his service of Hashem*." Indeed, two statements of our Sages* confirm this teaching: "I was created to serve my Creator" and "The Holy One, blessed be He, created nothing useless in His world." This is self-evident.

You mention our correspondence regarding the procurement of plants and seeds (see note 3). Obviously, the consultation must make it possible to establish each detail clearly, and I include in this the material contingencies as well — travel expenses, harvesting costs. As is the custom of those who conduct themselves generously, no doubt should remain on this subject.

I send you my blessing, in accordance with the statement of our Sages* that a person should express himself in the terms of his master, for a healthy summer.

It seems to me that one of the Tzipel brothers will soon travel there (see note 4). He will surely bring a few copies of the Siddur* and the Tanya*. And he will leave them at the synagogue, for the benefit of the community.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מא"ח פסח, ואף שאינו מזכיר דבר עד"ז, תקותי שניצלו ימי זמן חירותנו להחזקת עניני יהדות במחנם הט' ולהפצתה, וע"ד פתגם הבעש"ט, ששמענוהו כ"פ מכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, אז יעדער זאך וואס א איד זעהט און הערט, איז דאס א הוראה בעבודת השם ית' (אשר באמת מוכח תוכן פתגם זה משני מאמרי רז"ל: אני נבראתי לשמש את קוני, לא ברא הקב"ה בעולמו דבר אחד לבטלה, וק"ל).

במ"ש אודות קשור המכתבים בנוגע לקיחת שתילים וגרעינים וכו' - מובן שצריך להתדבר בזה כל הפרטים ברור, כוונתי גם בהנוגע לענינים הגשמים, היינו הוצאות הנסיעה, הלקיחה וכו'. וכדרך מנהג התגרים בזה שלא להניח מקום לספק וכו'...

בברכה, מתאים למרז"ל חייב אדם לומר בלשון רבו, צו א געזונטען זומער.

כמדומה שמתקרב זמן נסיעת א' מהאחים שי' ציפעל לשם. ובטח גם עתה יקח אתו איזה ס' וכמו תניא וכיו"ב, ויעזבם שם בביהכנ"ס לטובת הקהל.
