To the Rav*, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav* Peretz (see note 1),

Greetings and blessings,

I received with pleasure your letter of 23 Nissan*, in which you describe the Chassidic* gatherings of the auspicious days, about which I had received indirect information. How fortunate is your lot! You have the merit of being the channel conveying encouragement for the Chassidim* and the students of the Yeshivah*. You draw them still closer to their source and their origin — to our holy masters who, until now, have always carried out their mission and continue to do so, invoking Divine mercy for all those who are connected to them, in all their concerns in general, and more specifically regarding the teaching of Chassidus*, its practices, and its customs.

One can conclude from this how much the one who directs his efforts in this direction brings them (see note 2) pleasure. And he will receive the reward — materially and spiritually — for himself and for all the members of his family.

May Hashem* grant that you inform me, in the future, of your ascent in the domain of holiness, in accordance with the teaching of our Sages*. You will do so in good health, with breadth of spirit and success.

Nevertheless, all of this does not exempt you from your other activities, in particular your rabbinical functions. Granted, "a prisoner does not free himself..." (see note 3). However, there are various means of encouraging those who can intervene directly in this matter. You must therefore have recourse to some of these means. You will understand what I mean.

With my blessing, in the formulation of our master, my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us, for a healthy summer, and to share good news regarding all of this,

נעם לי לקבל מכתבו מכ"ג ניסן, בו כותב אודות ההתועדויות בימי הסגולה, כן קבלתי ידיעות עד"ז מן הצד, ואשרי חלקו שזוכה להיות צנור לעורר אנ"ש וגם התמימים ולקרבם עוד יותר למקורם גזע מחצבתם הם כ"ק רבותינו נשיאנו הק' אשר כשם שעד עתה עמדו ושמשו ה"ה גם עתה עומדים ומעוררים ר"ר על כל השייכים אליהם בעניניהם בכלל ובעניני תורת דא"ח הדרכותי' ומנהגי' ביחוד, ומזה מובן גודל הנחת רוח שגורם להם כאו"א המשתדל בזה ובא על שכרו הן בגשמיות והן ברוחניות הן בהנוגע לעצמו והן בהנוגע לב"ב שיחיו. ויה"ר שבעתיד יבשר שמקיים דרישת רז"ל מעלין בקדש מתוך בריאות הנכונה הרחבת הדעת ובהצלחה, לאידך גיסא הנה כל הנ"ל אינו פוטר יתר הענינים וביניהם גם ענין הרבנות, אשר אף שאין חבוש מתיר כו' הרי כמה דרכים ישנם איך לזרז את היכולים להשתדל בזה באופן ישר, ובחלק מדרכים אלו גם עליו להשתמש, וד"ל.
