Greetings and blessings,

I received with pleasure your letter from the end of the month of Adar*, in which you briefly describe what led you to take part in the creation of a Chabad* synagogue in your city. This has also become a house of study, thanks to the regular classes given there.

You know the explanation given by our Sages*, in Tractate Berachos* 8a, of the verse: "Hashem* loves the gates of Tzion*" (see note 1), and you can deduce from it the great merit — a public merit — of all those who act in this direction. Our Father Who is in Heaven, Who gives the Torah*, hears prayers and will undoubtedly reward them in all their needs, as well as in those of the members of their families.

You will find the appropriate words to explain this to the members of your family, and in particular to your wife, to whom Hashem* will grant long life. Our Sages* say that "a wife is like one's own body." She therefore receives a share in this activity, and there is no doubt that this will contribute to improving her state of health. Thus, the more she encourages you and urges you to continue your activities of paramount importance in this matter, the better will be her health and her morale. It is surely unnecessary to say more.

I have good hope that you also distributed Matzah Shemurah* to the members of the synagogue, as the Chassidim* have adopted this practice in recent years. And this custom is spreading more and more. This Matzah* is "the food of faith*" and "the food of healing." It will therefore strengthen the faith that is at the foundation of all the Mitzvos*. Indeed, "Chabakuk* came and expressed them (see note 2) in one principle, as it is said: 'The righteous lives by his faith.'" This will additionally strengthen the health of body and spirit, since it is a food of healing.

You will greet your friends who share this sacred mission with you. I send you my blessing to share good news regarding all of this, and in particular regarding the state of health of your wife.

נעם לי לקבל מכתבו משילהי אדר, בו כותב ראשי פרקים מהשתלשלות הדברים השתתפותו בהתייסדות ביהכ"נ חב"ד ד... אשר ביהכ"נ נעשה ג"כ בית המדרש ע"י קביעות עתים לתורה בשיעורים הנלמדים בו, וידועה דרשת רז"ל עה"פ אוהב ה' שערי ציון (ברכות ח, א), ומזה מובן גודל הזכות של כאו"א מהמשתדלים בזה, זכות הרבים, ונאמן אבינו שבשמים נובן התורה ומקבל התפלות לשלם שכרם בכל המצטרך להם ולב"ב, ובודאי ימצא האותיות המתאימות להסביר את זה לב"ב ובפרט לזוגתו שתליט"א, אשר כפי פתגם חז"ל אשתו כגופו דמיא, ובמילא גם לה חלק בהשתדלותו האמורה, ובלי ספר אשר גם זה גרם להטבת מצב בריאותה ומזה מובן ג"כ שככל שתעודד רוחו ותחזקו להמשיך בפעולותיו הכי נעלות בשטח האמור יתוסף עוד בבריאותה ובטיב מצב רוחה.

והאריכות בכגון דא, בטח אך למותר.

תקותי חזקה שחלקו ג"כ מצה שמורה לאנשי בית הכנסת זו וכמנהג אנ"ש בשנים האחרונות המנהג הולך ומתפשט, וע"י המצה שהיא מיכלא דמהימנותא ומיכלא דאסוותא יתוסף בכח האמונה שהיא יסוד כל המצות כי בא חבקוק והעמידן על אחת צדיק באמונתה יחי' ויתוסף בבריאות הגוף והנפש במיכלא דאסוותא.
