Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter, in which you tell me that your studies are fruitful. However, regarding the rectification of that which is known (see note 1), it seems to you that there is no improvement.

Nevertheless, "that which is hidden belongs to Hashem*..." (see note 2), and a person must only do what is incumbent upon him. It is impossible that the situation has not improved, and this is therefore nothing but a stratagem of the evil inclination*, designed to humiliate you and discourage you, in order to prevent you from progressing in the service of Hashem*. You should also consult the Tanya*, from Chapter 29 onward.

In any case, try to forget about all of this entirely. Do not even think about the rectification, insofar as possible. Strive to increase the influence you exert on your fellow, to draw him closer to the Torah* and its Mitzvos*. In this way, you will intensify Hashem's* blessing for your own advancement, which will be granted in His manner — that is, "measure for measure" (see note 3), but much more broadly.

With my blessing to share good news regarding all that has been said,

שלום וברכה!

במענה על מכתבו, בו כותב שרואה סימן ברכה בלימודו אבל בענין תיקון הענין הידוע נדמה לו, שאין שיפור בהמצב.

והנה בהדי כבשי דרחמנא כו' ועל האדם לעשות המוטל עליו ובפרט שאי אפשר שלא יהי' הזזה בשיפור המצב, ואין זה לא מתחבולות היצר הרע לפעול שפלות ונמיכות רוח בכדי למונעו עי"ז מהתקדמות בעבודת השי"ת. ויעיין ג"כ בתניא פרק כ"ט ואילך.

ובכל אופן ישתדל להסיח דעתו לגמרי מענין הנ"ל ואפילו מתיקונו ככל האפשרי, וישתדל להרבות בהשפעה על הזולת לקרבו לתורה ומצותי' אשר עי"ז יתוסף בברכת השי"ת להתקדמות עצמו ומדתו של הקב"ה מדה כנגד מדה, אלא שכמה פעמים ככה.
