I greet you and bless you,

I am responding to your letter of 6 Nissan and to the one preceding it. You mention the state of health of your son, to whom Hashem* will grant long life. At a propitious moment, I will mention his name at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us. May Hashem* grant that you soon convey good news regarding him.

It would be good to have his tefillin* checked and to ensure, in a kind but utterly determined manner, that he puts them on every weekday, wherever he may be. As you know, this is how a Jew ensures his protection.

You also mention how you earn your livelihood. As you know, our Sages advise, in this matter, to increase one's contribution to tzedakah*. Thus, the blessing of Hashem* will be fulfilled: "You shall tithe in order to become wealthy." And the term "increase" is indeed the most precise in this matter. One must, in fact, remedy the narrowing of the channels, and for this one must go to the other extreme, as the Rambam* says in Chapter 3 of his Laws of Character Traits.

For the conduct adopted by man here below calls forth the same from the Supernal Man, seated upon the Throne. The Holy One, blessed be He, acts "measure for measure."

It is surely unnecessary to remind you of the need to instill the fear of Hashem* in your students, to teach them the laws applicable in daily life, for this is the purpose of man, as it is said: "to observe His mitzvos*." And nothing can withstand the will.

במענה על מכתבו מו' ניסן והקודם לו. בו כותב אודות מצב בריאות בנו... שליט"א, ובעת רצון יזכירוהו על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, ויה"ר שיזכה בקרוב לבשר טוב אודותו. ומהנכון הי' לבדוק את התפילין שלו ושישתדל בדרכי נועם ביחד עם זה ככל היכולת שיניחם בכל יום חול בכל מקום שהוא נמצא, וכידעו שזהו מגן וצנה לאיש הישראלי.

ובמ"ש אודות מצב פרנסתו, ידועה עצת חז"ל להרבות בצדקה, שאז מתקיימת ברכת השי"ת עשר בשביל שתתעשר והמלה להרבות מדוייקת בזה, כיון שצריך להסיר צמצום הצנורות שהיא על ידי תנועה בקצה השני, וע"ד המובא ברמב"ם הלכות דיעות פ"ג ובדוגמת הנהגת האדם דלמטה מעורר זה בהנהגת אדם שעל הכסא כביכול, דמדתו של הקב"ה מדה כנגד מדה.

בודאי למותר לעוררו על החדרת יראת שמים בתלמידיו וידיעת הלכות הצריכות בחיי היום יומים, כי זה כל האדם, וכמ"ש את מצותיו שמור, ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון.
