To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*

and devotes himself to communal needs,

Rav Yehoshua (Rav Y. Sheftman; see letter no. 3461),

I greet you and bless you,

I received with pleasure your letter of this Thursday, which followed a lengthy interruption, and the booklets on Pesach* and Shavuos* that were enclosed. I thank you for this gift. But I am surprised that you do not speak of your participation in the gathering of the Chassidim* in your city, as you usually do.

As you wish, your request for blessing will be read at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us.

We pass (see letter no. 3860) from Adar, "the month that was transformed for them into joy" in its entirety, to the month of Nissan, and Chassidus* explains what our Sages say on this subject. A Jew, indeed, advances, unlike the soul before its descent to this world, which merely remains stationary.

Our Sages say that each day of this month (Nissan) is comparable to Rosh Chodesh*, as the Shnei Luchos HaBris* explains regarding the verse: "This month shall be for you the head of the months" — which, moreover, itself introduces this explanation in an allusive manner (since Rosh Chodesh* is the head of the month).

It is permitted to work on Rosh Chodesh*. Nevertheless, it is not "a day of labor," as the verse (Shmuel I 20) emphasizes. This means that the fulfillment of these days emanates from a higher spiritual source. The blessing is then much more fruitful, as the Or HaTorah* of the Tzemach Tzedek*, page 22a, explains.

May Hashem* grant that the contribution of these months extend throughout the entire year, that the spiritual become more clearly visible through the material. Thus, the barriers and limitations will diminish and the promise will be fulfilled: "As in the days of your going out from Egypt, I will show you wonders."

With my blessing for a kosher* and joyous Pesach*,
