I greet you and bless you,

As is your habit, you do not mention in your letter your activities within the Chabad* youth association and, more generally, for strengthening Jewish observance. Now, you have been personally asked to do so, and this request has also been made to all the Chassidim*, of whom you are one.

I do not understand the reasoning behind all of this. Is this the purpose for which man was created — especially a Jew, and in particular one who finds himself in the palace of the King, the land "that Hashem* your Elokim* seeks from the beginning of the year to the end of the year" — far more than any other place in the world?

The fact of evading this question and not even taking it into account, not answering it in the appropriate manner, changes nothing about the reality. There is no need to say more, for it is so obvious and, moreover, painful.

Your wife wishes to continue using her abilities in the domain of proper education, and this is particularly wise. May Hashem* grant that you follow her example. Moreover, you should not be content with that alone, but in addition, you should fully carry out your mission, in accordance with what you must accomplish.

..כדרכו במכתבו אינו מזכיר דבר אודות פעולותיו במסגרת צעירי אגו"ח ובעניני יהדות בכלל, אף שכ"פ עוררו אותו עד"ז נוסף על התעוררות לכללות אנ"ש שגם הוא מהם. ואיני מבין מה השכל בזה, והאומנם זהו תכלית בריאת האדם ובפרט איש הישראלי ובפרטי פרטית הנמצא בפלטין של מלך ארץ אשר ה' אלקיך דורש אותה מראשית שנה עד אחרית שנה וביתר שאת וביתר עז מאשר בחו"ל. וההתחמקות מבלי להתענין בשאלה ומבלי לענות עלי' באופן הדרוש במילואו, אינה משנה את המציאות ואת הקושיא ואין להאריך בדבר הפשוט ובפרט שגם מצער.

נכון הדבר במאד מה שזוגתו תחי' ברצונה להמשיך לנצל כשרונותי' בשדה החינוך על טהרת הקדש, והלואי הי' לומד ממנה ק"ו וגם לא הי' משתמש במדת דיו לבא מן הדין להיות כנדון כו' אלא ימלא את המוטל עליו מתאים לענינו.
