To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*,

devotes himself to communal needs, carries out

a sacred mission, Rav Mordechai (Rav M. Gifter, dean of the Yeshivah of Telz, in Cleveland),

I greet you and bless you,

I am responding to your letter, asking me for the references to the Tzemach Tzedek's* analysis, in his responsa, regarding the contribution of wood to bread (which improves its taste by enabling its baking) and the statement: "May my hands be consecrated to the One Who made them."

You are presumably referring to the responsa on Yoreh Deah*, Chapter 183. You should also consult the Tzemach Tzedek's* commentaries on the Talmud*, at that reference in Tractate Kesubos.

You are surely interested in the discussion that has been brought to the agenda of the young Rabbanim* of the United States regarding the rabbinical committee of New York and the council of synagogues. In my opinion, the consequences that will flow from this will be even more decisive and important for the American community, and especially for the young generation, for the youth, as my letter, a copy of which I enclose (letter no. 4162), specifies. That letter, for various reasons, was written concisely and in a non-polemical tone.

It is no doubt unnecessary to emphasize to someone like you the importance of resolving this problem with organizations and committees that are in contact with the youth and whose members the community heeds. Consequently, whoever has the power to exert influence in this matter must do so, in order that everything proceed in the best possible way and that there be no room for doubt or falsification (introduced by the Reform movement). You should understand what I mean.

במענה על מכתבו שאלת מראה מקום לשקו"ט של כ"ק אדמו"ר הצמח צדק בשו"ת שלו בענין דשבח עצים בפת, ובענין יקדשו ידי לעושיהן.

וכנראה כוונתו לשו"ת חלק יו"ד סי' קפ"ג, וראה ג"כ חידושי הצ"צ לש"ס כתובות שם.

בודאי מתענין כת"ר בהשקו"ט שעלתה על סדר היום דרבנים הצעירים בארצוה"ב בהנוגע לנויארק באארד אוו ראבייס וסינאגאג קאונסיל, אשר לדעתי מזה תוצאות עוד גדולות וחשובות יותר בהנוגע להבע"ב דארצוה"ב וביחוד לדור הצעיר ולהנוער מתאים להעתק מכתבי המוסגר בזה, אף כי הדברים אמורים בקיצור ולא בחריפות מפני כמה טעמים. ובודאי לדווכתי' אך למותר לעורר על חשיבות אופן פתרון שאלה זו ע"י כל הארגונים והועדים שהנוער ובע"ב מתחשבים עמהם, שמתאים לזה מוכרחת השתדלות כאו"א שיכול להשפיע על מהלך הענינים שיהי' על הצד היותר טוב ובאופן שלא ישאר כל מקום לספק ולסילוף וד"ל.
