Igrot Kodesh · Letter 4195 — Health

To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and
devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Eliezer (Rav E. Karasik; see letter no. 3908),
I greet you and bless you,
I am surprised not to have heard from you since your letter of 1 Adar.
In that letter, dated on the first day of Rosh Chodesh*, and in the previous one, you discuss the agricultural school. It is clear that by entering the domain of Chabad* education, you must adopt a corresponding mindset. It is indispensable that there be no difference between the conduct and lifestyle of this institution and those of the carpentry school or the printing school, which will soon be established. I already responded to all of this in the letter I wrote to you at the time.
Perhaps some students will leave, but one cannot lower the standards of an educational institution on their account, especially if it means going against the spirit of Chabad*. What you propose is therefore out of the question.
Nevertheless, all Lubavitch* practices must be presented in a pleasant manner, without making concessions. One must therefore not expel these students, Heaven forbid, but rather explain to them the negative aspect of such an attitude and show them that it goes against their own good. The essential point is that one must not adopt the approach of Mussar* — describing evil at length and speaking about it most of the time. Rather, the effort and explanations should focus on the elevation of true good.
Very simply, one must increase the Chassidic* farbrengens* with these students — obviously at a level suited to their understanding — with stories, songs, and Chabad* dances.
Likewise, if you place a radio (see letter no. 4138) in the school, you will not be able to forbid them from having radios in the rooms where they sleep. And there, no one will be able to guide them in what they choose and listen to.
You do not mention your state of health, and I have good hope that it has improved. May Hashem* grant that it be even better, for you, for your wife, and for all the members of your family.
Pesach* is approaching, for us and for all of Yisrael*, for good and for blessing. You will celebrate it, together with the members of your family, in a kosher* and joyous manner.
With my blessing,
M. Schneerson,
