I greet you and bless you,

I received some time ago your letter from the month of Teves, which contained a request for blessing written at the beginning of Shevat. It therefore seems that the indication of the month of Teves is an error. In any event, I am surprised not to have heard from you since then, even though the days of the Hilloula* (of the Frierdiker Rebbe*, on 10 Shevat), those of Purim*, and the intervening period were surely used in the appropriate manner, according to the needs of the moment. No doubt you will write to me soon, with the appropriate detail.

It is surely unnecessary to remind you of the need to distribute, in my name, a kezayis* of matzah shmurah* to your neighbors. The expenses this entails will be covered by the specific collection carried out by my close relative, Rav A. Z. Slonim (see letter no. 3920). The same applies to the cost of acquiring the Shabbos* timer (see letter no. 4005). Obviously, you may show him or reproduce for him these few lines regarding the matzah shmurah*. It is clear that I am referring to hand-made matzos*.

It would be good to seize this opportunity to explain that matzah* is "the food of healing" and "the food of faith." Indeed, for a Jew, healing and faith are interconnected.

זה מכבר נתקבל מכתבו מחדש טבת ובו מוסגר פ"נ כתוב בתחלת שבט, וכנראה שמ"ש טבת הוא פליטת הקולמוס, ועכ"פ פליאה שמאז ועד עתה אין ממנו ידיעות, אף שבודאי ניצלו ימי ההילולא וכן ימי הפורים והימים שבינתים באופן המתאים כפי דרישת השעה, ובטח יכתוב בפרטיות הדרושה בקרוב.

בודאי למותר לעוררו אודות חלוקת כזית מצה שמורה בשמי לשכניו, ובודאי יקבל ההוצאות על זה מהמגבית המיוחדת מש"ב הרה"ח הרע"ז שי' סלונים, וכן ההוצאות לקניית השעון-שבת, ומובן שיכול להראות או להעתיק לו שורותי אלה בהנוגע להשמורה (מובן שכוונתי לאלו שנאפו ביד), וכדאי שינצל הזדמנות זו לבאר הענין אשר מצה היא מיכלא דאסוותא ומיכלא דמהימנותא, אשר רפואה ואמונה קשורים זה בזה באיש הישראלי...
