I greet you and bless you,

Regarding the name to be given to a newborn child, you know the answer that my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, gave to this question (see letter no. 3203).

One can deduce this answer from the writings of the Arizal*. The Holy One, blessed be He, places in the mouth of the parents the name that is necessary for this soul, in accordance with the place it occupies near the Supernal Man, Who is its source. This name is engraved on high, near the Throne of Hashem*.

...ובמש"כ בענין קריאת שם להנולד, ידוע מענה כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר בכגון דא, אשר ההורים דוקא יחליטו בזה. והוא מובן עפ"מ דאיתא בכתבי האריז"ל, אשר הקב"ה משים בפי ההורים דוקא השם ההוא המוכרח אל הנשמה ההיא כפי המקום באדם העליון אשר ממנו חוצב והשם הזה נרשם למעלה בכסא הכבוד (ראה שער הגלגולים הקדמה כ"ג.
