To the leaders of the Chabad* youth association

in Montreal, may Hashem* grant you long life,

I greet you and bless you,

I have duly received the list of those who recited Chassidus* (by heart, generally on Shabbos* afternoon) in the synagogue, from Shabbos* Tavo — "when you arrive in the land" — through Shabbos* Terumah inclusive — "They shall take an offering for Me." I am surprised that they are so few in number, including among the students (of the Yeshivah*) and especially among the married men.

It would be good for you to consult among yourselves to determine the reason and find the way to rectify the situation — that is, very simply, to multiply the number of those who repeat Chassidus*. To people like you, it is unnecessary to explain how important all of this is. It suffices to recall that in this matter as well, the statement of our Sages applies: "More than the wealthy person benefits the poor…" (in reality, it is the poor person who benefits the wealthy one) — as one can verify concretely.

Likewise, it would be good to consult in advance about the Chassidic* discourses that will be recited in public, so that those present can understand them. It is in this regard that it is said: "Salvation is obtained through many counselors."

מאשר הנני קבלת רשימת חוזרי דא"ח בבתכ"נ מהזמן דשבת כי תבוא אל הארץ ועד פ' ויקחו לי תרומה ועד בכלל. ולפלא מספר המועט של החוזרים אפילו מבין התלמידים וביחוד וביותר מבין הנשואים. ונכון הי' שיתדברו ביניהם ויחקרו לסיבת הנ"ל וימצאו עצה איך לתקן המצב, היינו כפשוטו שיתרבה מספר החוזרים, וגודל הענין בזה אין צריך ביאור לדכוותייהו ורק לעוררם אשר גם על זה קאי מרז"ל יותר ממה שבעה"ב עושה עם העני וכו' וכנראה במוחש.

כן הי' מהנכון שיתיעצו מראש אודות המאמרים שחוזרים אותם ברבים שיהי' תוכנם קרוב להבנת השומעים, ועל כל האמור נאמר ותשועה ברוב יועץ.
