I greet you and bless you,
I hope that you will organize, on Purim*, a joyous Chassidic* gathering (farbrengen*). It is during this festival, indeed, that everything was "transformed." Consequently, those who, for the time being, are opponents will be transformed and become Chassidim*.
Moreover, those who are already reaching the end of the path will conclude their journey as quickly as possible, for, as is sung on 19 Kislev* on the occasion of the festival of liberation, "the rose of the Chassidim* is radiant and joyful."
With my blessing for a joyous Purim*, for permanent joy, and to convey good tidings,

9 Adar 5716
Brooklyn
I greet you and bless you,
I am responding to your letter of Rosh Chodesh* Adar, a month during which one increases one's joy. You mention the ingathering of the exiles, the reunion of all the tribes of Israel, as it is said: "Assemble together." You deduce several points from this, to which I provide my response:
A) We can refer only to the Torah*. Before taking action, one must therefore consult it in order to determine what it decides — whether such action is required, forbidden, or merely permitted. This is the criterion for approaching any undertaking and, in your case, the way of regarding non-Jews, the Japanese nation, and the researches of a certain person on their origin.
It is quite clear that, according to the Shulchan Aruch*, these men are not Jewish. Everything stated there about the conditions and modalities of accepting converts therefore applies to them. This is particularly true of the effort to convert them (which is therefore not desirable). One can simply conclude that the actions to which you allude have no reason to be. And it is quite clear that these actions hinder the redemption, Heaven forbid.
B) You inquire about the delay of our redemption. I am surprised that you seek hidden elements or explanations that are difficult to accept, when our Sages clearly establish, in Tractate Sanhedrin 97b, that "all the final dates for the redemption have passed. Everything depends solely on teshuvah* (see letter no. 4062) and good deeds." In the words of our great master, the Rambam*, in his Laws of Teshuvah, Chapter 7, paragraph 5: "The Torah* has given the assurance that at the end of their exile, the Jews will do teshuvah* and will immediately be redeemed."
Instead of seeking a way to convince the Japanese people, everyone must therefore use his strengths and capabilities to lead Jews toward teshuvah*. For the deed is essential and not the theory. In daily life, everyone must therefore multiply their positive actions. This is especially the case for those who find themselves in the "land upon which the eyes of Hashem* are always turned, from the beginning of the year to the end of the year."
C) All Jews form but one great organism, as it is said: "You are all standing together today — heads of tribes… drawers of water." Whoever strengthens, within his four cubits, the study of the Torah* and the best practice of the mitzvos* thereby strengthens this organism, as is the case with the body of a person in the physical sense.
D) As for the body of a person, the more the vitality of the soul is revealed, the healthier the body becomes. The same is true — and even more so — when one strengthens the soul of the Torah*, the study of its inner teaching, and the adoption of its customs and practices. One thereby strengthens the body of the Torah* (its revealed part) and, through it, the body of the person. It is unnecessary to say more, so obvious is this.
I send you my blessing to convey, very soon, good tidings of the action you carry out, with proper ardor, to strengthen Judaism and its mitzvos* in every place where you exert your influence.

the secretary,
