Igrot Kodesh · Letter 414 — Granting Publications Conditionally and Preserving Chassidic Memories

By the grace of Hashem,

12 Cheshvan 5709,

To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, student of the Yeshiva*,

Rav Ch. Z.[1],

I greet and bless you,

My father-in-law, the Rebbe Shlita, passed on your letter requesting that we send you our publications. However, it is clear that those we send to Rav M. P. HaCohen[2] must be made available to the greatest number. We do not have the possibility of sending them to each individual.

Nevertheless, your request reached us in an exceptional manner, and we will therefore accede to it, exceptionally, on the condition that:

1. What is sent to you in packages be made available to everyone.

2. Having signed your letter with the notation 'grandson of Rav M. Y. of Homil[3]', you send us the memories you received from your grandfather and likewise from his brother[4].

Indeed, for some time now my father-in-law, the Rebbe Shlita, has wished that the memories of Chassidim* of previous generations be gathered. In due course, an opportunity will surely arise to make them available to the greatest number[5].

Please convey my greetings to the entire community and to Rav M. P.

It seems to me that at the time of my father-in-law the Rebbe Shlita's imprisonment in Petersburg, you were one of those to whom I entrusted manuscripts for safekeeping.

מסר לי כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א את מכתבו בבקשה לשלוח לו מהנדפס ע"י והנה מה ששולחים אנו ע"ש הררמ"פ שי' הכהן הוא בפירוש ע"כ לזכות בזה את הרבים כי אין ביכולתינו לשלוח לכל יחיד ויחיד בפ"ע.

בכ"ז כיוון שבקשתו באה אלינו בדרך יוצא מן הכלל הנני למלאות ג"כ בדרך יוצא מן הכלל ובלבד: א) שיזכה בהנשלח על שמו בהחבילה בפ"ע את הרבים, ב) חותם מכתבו [...] נכד הרמ"י נ"ע מהאמעל. ולכן מטובו לשלוח מזכרונותיו מה שיודע ע"ד זקנו וגם אחי זקנו כי זה מכבר רצון כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א לקב[ץ] הידיעות ע"ד זקני החסידים, ובטח במשך הזמן יהי' בזה ג"כ זכות הרבים.
