To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*

and devotes himself to communal needs,

Rav Shlomo Chaim (Rav S. C. Kasselman, director of the Yeshivah* of Lod, see letter no. 4992),

I greet you and bless you,

A) I have duly received your letter, with what it contained, a request for a blessing* on the day of the Hilloula* (of the Frierdiker Rebbe*, 10 Shevat). No doubt you will consider with all due seriousness what I wrote to the administration of the Yeshivah* (see preceding letter). You will direct your efforts in this matter and devote yourself to it with ardor.

It is necessary to ensure that the Yeshivah* has a good reputation — not out of concern for propaganda or seeking renown, but in accordance with the deep dimension of things — and not only for the fear of Hashem* or for Chassidus*, but also for the revealed dimension of the Torah*.

You know the account of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us, according to which the Alter Rebbe*, at the beginning of his work of spreading Chassidus* in Russia, sent students who had profound knowledge of the revealed part of the Torah*. Wherever they went, those who listened to them were amazed by their knowledge, and it was in this way that they captured their minds and hearts for the study of Chassidus*.

B) You mention the Chassidic* discourses that will be studied in the various classes. As you know, our Sages say that "one must study what one's heart desires." It is therefore necessary, in this matter, to take into account the true desire of the students.

C) You ask me about the creation of what should be the equivalent of a Kollel* (see preceding letter). I wish to obtain precise information on this subject: the number of daily hours of study for those who will attend, their capabilities, and whether after having pursued their studies there for some time, they will be able and willing to become mashpi'im*, teachers, and deans of Yeshivah* in the domain of Chabad*, as well as all the expenses this will entail. It is after that that I will be able to make a decision on this point, as I wrote in the letter I addressed to all the directors of the Yeshivah*.

With my blessing to convey good tidings of all this,
