To the leaders of the youth of the Chabad* association in

Jerusalem, the holy city, may Hashem* grant you long life,

I greet you and bless you,

You will surely undertake concrete actions immediately. Indeed, the Mishnah* states that the deed is essential, not the theory. Moreover, you know the commentary that the Baal Shem Tov* gives on the verse: "In an arid land, weary… I will observe You in holiness" (the Baal Shem Tov's* interpretation is that it is precisely in an "arid land" that one can "observe Hashem* in holiness"). Recently, the activities of the Chabad* youth in Jerusalem have been considerably weakened. This will surely awaken in you an increased effort, as this verse indicates.

I would like to recall here what I have already written (see letter no. 3328), on several occasions, to the administration of the Yeshivah* Toras Emes (the Lubavitch Yeshivah* of Jerusalem). All the married young men, especially those who have been recently accepted, must devote some of their time each day to activities in the domain of Chabad*. The administration responded to me that these young men are ready to assume this responsibility and merit, that they discussed it with the Chabad* youth so as to determine the most effective way to utilize their abilities, their time, and their enthusiasm.

I am surprised to see that, for the time being, the Chabad* youth have apparently done nothing in this domain. It would be good for you to meet as soon as possible with the administration of the Yeshivah* Toras Emes. You may show them this letter and decide what must be done in this matter.

It is surely unnecessary to remind you that, as with every time one undertakes a new action, one must take into account what already exists and seek to strengthen it. Then, as quickly as possible, you must introduce new actions, and then will be fulfilled the promise of our Sages that "to whoever adds (effort), more is added (blessings)."

בודאי יגשו תומ"י לפעולות ממשיות, וכפסק המשנה, לא המדרש עיקר אלא המעשה, ובפרט ע"פ הידוע בדיוק הבעש"ט במה שנאמר, בארץ צי' ועיף גו' בקדש חזיתיך, וכיון שבזמן האחרון נראתה חלישות גדולה בפעולות צעירי אגו"ח בירושת"ו, בודאי יעורר זה אצלם תוספת התאמצות וע"ד כתוב הנ"ל.

ובזה להעיר על מה שכתבתי זה כ"פ להנהלת ישיבת תורת אמת, שעל כל

האברכים הנשואים ובפרט אלו שנתקבלו בזמן האחרון, לנדב מזמנם בכל יום לעסקנות בכרם חב"ד, וההנהלה ענתה לי, שמוכנים האברכים מצדם למלאות חובתם וזכותם זו, ומסרו עד"ז לצעירי אגו"ח שיתייעצו עמהם ע"ד האופן הכי מועיל לנצל את כשרונותיהם זמנם ומרצם. ולפלא שכנראה עד עתה לא נעשה בזה דבר מצד צעירי אגו"ח, ומהנכון שיפגשו בהקדם עם הנהלת ישיבת תורת אמת וברשותם להראות להם מכתבי זה, ולטכס עצה בכל האמור.

בודאי למותר להעיר, אשר כמו בכל עבודה התחלתה נכון שיהי' הבאה בחשבון וע"מ לחזק הענינים הקיימים מכבר, אבל במשך זמן קצר ככל האפשרי להוסיף עליהם ותקוים הבטחת רז"ל כל המוסיף מוסיפין לו.
