Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 10 Shevat*, the date of the Hilloula* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us, leader of Israel.

You tell me that you have devoted the greater part of your life to a comprehensive Hebrew education. It is no doubt unnecessary to point out to you that this education continues throughout one's entire life. And this is so at both extremes simultaneously. On the one hand, one who finds himself in the lowest situation can radically transform his state — sometimes even, in the expression of the Zohar*, "in one hour and in one instant." On the other hand, one who has reached the highest summit still has much to learn, for good has no limit.

Someone who devotes himself to the education of others, and even to his own, must constantly be vigilant — seizing every occasion and every opportunity that presents itself, or even creating them. One can verify concretely how true the following well-known saying is: "I have learned much from my masters, and from my disciples, more than from all the others."

The education of others — guiding them and showing them the path leading to the dwelling place of Hashem — is a training for the one who imparts it. It has a positive effect on his own education.

Of course, my purpose is not to moralize, which Hashem forbid, but to emphasize to you that you are in no way exempt from using your abilities, to the fullest extent possible, to draw Jewish hearts closer to our Father Who is in Heaven — through the study of our Torah*, the Torah* of life, and the practice of the mitzvos*.

All of this will increase the blessings of Hashem for all your needs — for your state of physical health and for the needs of the members of your family.

P.S.: I would like to know whether your lectures, which you describe to me, have been published in a form that can be obtained. They are not currently in my library.

במענה על מכתבו מיו"ד שבט, הוא יום ההילולא של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע נשיא ישראל.

...כיון שכותב שעבר רוב ימיו בשדה החינוך העברי השלם, בטח למותר להדגיש אשר החינוך זמנו כל ימי חיי האדם, כי בשני הקצוות גם יחד, אפילו הנמצא ר"ל בעומק תחת יש בידו וביכולתו להשתנות מן הקצה על הקצה, ולפעמים כביטוי הזהר בשעתא חדא וברגעא חדא, וכן בקצה השני אפילו זה שעלה עומק רום יש בידו ללמוד יותר ועוד יותר, כיון שהטוב הוא אין סופי, ועל המחנך אחרים וכן הוא מחנך גם את עצמו לעמוד תמיד על המשמר לנצל על אפשריות והזדמנות בכיוון האמור או גם ליצור הזדמנויות אלו, וע"פ הנראה במושח צדק מאמר הידוע, הרבה למדתי מרבותי ומתלמידי יותר מכולם, הרי ההשתדלות [ב]חינוכם של אחרים להראותם ולנחותם הדרך העולה בית א-ל, מלמדת ומוסיפה בתוצאות הטובות בחינוכו של המחנך והשתלמותו.

מובן שאין כוונתי להטפת מוסר ח"ו כי אם לעורר, אשר.. אין זה פוטרו כלל וכלל מלנצל כשרונותיו ככל האפשרי לקרב לבם של בני ובנות ישראל לאבינו שבשמים על ידי לימוד תורתנו תורת חיים וקיום מצותי' שגם זה בודאי יוסיף בברכות השם יתברך להמצטרך לבריאותו בגשמיות וכן בהמצטרך לב"ב.
