To the members of the committee of Kfar Chabad*,
may Hashem grant you long life,

Greetings and blessings,

A) I have duly received the three reports (of the committee meetings) of 7, 13, and 19 Teves*. I am pleased to learn that you seek to bind the existing village more closely with the new one, in keeping with what I had already written to you previously. In my opinion, you must, by every possible means, ensure that the entire area belongs to you. All parts of it must therefore be used — for habitation or for agriculture.

Obviously, this will have the consequence of multiplying the number of the Kfar's* residents, the importance of which I have also emphasized to several people. I have also written that, in my view, this would have an impact both materially and spiritually. You must understand what I mean.

B) I am surprised that you say nothing about the preparations for the Hilloula* of the 10th of Shevat*. No doubt these have already been initiated. Perhaps it would be good to appoint people responsible for this matter, who will be able to prepare for their task sufficiently early, as was done for Purim*.

C) I have also heard that in various places, such occasions are used to earn a livelihood. For this purpose, a place is prepared where beverages and cakes are sold (see letter no. 4271). In addition, Chassidic publications are distributed and sold there. If there were places at the Kfar* to sleep, this could also be a source of livelihood.

D) Essential point: The time has finally come to stop viewing the Kfar* merely as a gathering place reserved for a few individuals. It is, in fact, a community whose influence extends to the outside as well. It is therefore necessary and even indispensable to provide its residents with what they need in order to influence this outside — that is, not only a synagogue, but also a place to accommodate visitors, who will receive information about Chabad*, about the Chassidim*, in the Holy Land and in the rest of the world, at present and in the past. Several points can be added to this, but an immediate reflection will enable you to determine them.

I add, once again — although for me this point is not essential — that one can, through all of this, earn an honorable livelihood, materially and spiritually at the same time.

With blessing for success in all the above.

In keeping with my approach previously stated, I have written to the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* of Lod* (in letter no. 4095) to say that, in my opinion, the main building of this institution, whose construction is planned, should be located at Kfar Chabad*. Of course, for this to be possible, the Kfar* must allocate a sufficiently large plot of land in a suitable location.

שלום וברכה!

מאשר הנני קבלת שלשת הפרטי-כל מז' י"ג וי"ט טבת, ונהניתי על מה שמשתדלים לקשר עוד יותר הכפר דעד עתה והכפר החדש, מתאים למה שכתבתי מאז שלדעתי עליהם להשתדך בכל עוז שיהי' כל שטח זה ברשותם. ובודאי יש לנצל כל החלקות שבו אם לדירה או לזריעה וכיו"ב, ומובן ג"כ שזהו דורש השתדלות להרבות תושבי הכפר, אשר גם על זה עוררתי זה כו"כ, וגם כתבתי שלדעתי זהו נוגע הן בגשמיות והן ברוחניות וד"ל...

ד) לפלא שאין מזכירים אודות הכנות ליום ההילולא יו"ד שבט, ובטח נעשים הענינים בפועל, ואפשר כדאי הי' שיהי' איזה ממונים לכגון דא, שיכולים היו להיכון לעבודתם בעוד מועד, וכמו בהנוגע לפורים כו' וכו'.

ה) כן שמעתי אשר בכ"מ מנצלים הזדמנות כאלו גם לענינים של פרנסה ע"י שמכינים גם מקום מכירה מיוחד למשקאות מיני מזונות וכו', נוסף על מקום פרסום וגם מכירה של עניני דפוס השייכים לאנ"ש. והרי אפשר שאם הי' מקום לינה בכפר מתאים - גם זה יכול הי' לשמש מקור פרנסה.

ו) והנקודה העיקרית בזה, מכבר באה העת להביט על הכפר לא כעל מקום קבוץ כו"כ יחידים ותו לא מידי, אלא גם כמו על צבור, וצבור שהשפעה לו גם על החוץ, ולכן דרוש וגם מוכרח לספר צרכי-הצבור גם בהנוגע להשפעתו על החוץ, היינו לא רק בית הכנסת וכו' אלא מקום אש"ל להמבקרים, מקום נתינת ידיעות על חב"ד ואנ"ש הן באה"ק ת"ו והן בחו"ל, הן בהוה והן בעבר כו' וכו' ויש להרבות בזה כמה נקודות, שבהתבוננות קלה יעמדו עליהן.

ועוה"פ הנני מוסיף אף שלדידי לא זהו העיקר אשר כל זה יכול להיות ענין של פרנסה בכבוד, ופרנסה גשמית ורוחנית גם יחד.

בהתאם לשיטתי הנ"ל, כתבתי לישיבת תו"ת דלוד שלדעתי, נכון וביותר שבנין מרכזי דתו"ת שיש לבנותו - צריך להקימו בכפר חב"ד. אבל מובן שבכדי לאפשר זה על הכפר להקציב לזה שטח מספיק וגם מרווח ובמקום המתאים.
