To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem
and carries out a sacred mission,
Rav Shneur Zalman (Rav Sh. Z. Levittin of Paris; see letter no. 3433),

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter from the eve of Rosh Chodesh* Shevat*, in which you announce good news — you tell me that you have concluded the matter concerning the house and that you have already paid a deposit.

May Hashem grant that this beginning take place at a good and fruitful moment, that everything continue in the same manner, and that this dwelling be joyful, materially and spiritually — devoted to Chassidus* and the dissemination of its wellsprings.

I am surprised that in your letter you say nothing about your students and what you have accomplished with them. I have, however, repeatedly reminded the Chassidim* of the affirmation, found in various Chassidic texts, that each person possesses a "portal" — that is, a specific mitzvah* through which Torah* and mitzvos* receive their elevation, through which Heavenly blessings are revealed.

For the Chassidim* and students of the Yeshivah*, particularly in our era, this portal is the dissemination of the wellsprings of Chassidus* outward. Consequently, requesting a blessing in any domain whatsoever passes through the widening of this portal. You must understand what I mean.

No doubt you will take advantage of the day of the Hilloula* (of the Frierdiker Rebbe*) of 10 Shevat*, which is approaching, in an appropriate manner. And may Hashem grant that this motivation continue throughout the year.

במענה על מכתבו מער"ח שבט, מבשר טוב שגמרו בהנוגע להדירה, ונתנו כבר זאדאטעק.

הנה יה"ר שתהי' התחלה בשעה טובה ומוצלחת וכן ההמשך ותהי' דירתם דירה שמחה בגשמיות וברוחניות ובהתועדות לעניני חסידות ולהפצת המעינות.

לפלא שאין מזכיר במכתבו ע"ד מושפעיו ופעולותיו בהם אף שכ"פ עוררתי לכמה מאנ"ש ע"ד המובא בדא"ח בכ"מ שלכל אחד ישנו שער, היינו מצוה וענין מיוחד דרך בו עולים ויורדים התורה המצות וכל ההשפעות, ובאנ"ש והתמימים בפרט בזמננו זה הוא הענין דהפצת המעיינות חוצה, ובמילא בקשת ברכה באיזה ענין שיהי' ה"ז קשור בהרחבת השער וכו' וד"ל.

בודאי ינצלו יום ההילולא יו"ד שבט הבע"ל כדבעי, ויה"ר שתומשך ההתעוררות על כל השנה כולה.
