Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letters of 5, 12, 22, 24, and 25 Teves*.

A) I am surprised that you request to reduce the number of students at the vocational school, when there is a shortage in the Holy Land of places that can integrate the youth. Perhaps there is a specific reason for this. In any event, it is said that "the candle lit for one person illuminates one hundred," and the increase in students does not therefore simultaneously entail an increase in costs.

One should also consider that in a short while, the students likely to attend such schools will be far fewer (following the conclusion of the immigration wave). Conversely, the institutions that seek them will multiply. The sooner, therefore, the better. Obviously, this should not be regarded as a fundamental principle for which one must fight (to ensure that students are specifically in this school).

B) Regarding the various study schedules (see letter no. 4000) at the agricultural school, one must endeavor to adopt the following program, which is also that of the vocational school. On one hand, the day should begin with prayer and sacred studies, in accordance with your program. On the other hand, the time devoted to sacred studies should, to the extent possible, be slightly greater than that of secular studies.

Since you wrote to me, you have surely sought to integrate additional students suitable for the agricultural school. I await good news in this domain as well. This letter is being sent to you express, and you will surely respond as soon as possible. May Hashem grant that all of this have a positive outcome.

במענה על מכתביהם מ: ה', י"ב, כ"ב, כ"ד, כ"ה טבת.

א. לפלא הדרישה לצמצם במספר תלמידים לבתה"ס למלאכה, בה בשעה שחסרים מקומות קליטה להנוער באה"ק ת"ו, ואפשר איזה טעם מיוחד יש בזה. ומובן אשר מצד הענינים דנר לאחד נר למאה, הנה כשמוסיפים בתלמידים אין זה אומר שבאותו הערך מתוספת ההוצאה. כן יש להביא בחשבון אשר בעוד איזה זמן בטח יתמעט ביותר מנין התלמידים המתאימים לבתי ספר כאלו, ולאידך גיסא יתרבה מספר המוסדות שיחפשו אחריהם ובמילא כל ההקדם בזה ישובח. מובן שבכ"ז אין זה ענין עקרוני להלחם עליו עד כו'.

ב. בהנוגע למשך זמני הלימודים השונים בבית הספר החקלאי, יש להשתדל, וכמו בביה"ס למלאכה, לסדר התכנית באופן: (א) שהתחלת היום תהי' בתפלה ובלמודי קודש, וכמו בתכנית שלהם; (ב) שזמני לימודי קודש יהיו עכ"פ מעט יותר מזמני לימודי חול, אם באפשרי...

בודאי מאז כתבם השתדלו לקלוט עוד תלמידים מתאימים לביה"ס החקלאי ואחכה לבשורות טובות גם בזה. המכתב נשלח דחוף ובטח יענו בהקדם ויה"ר שיסתיים כהנ"ל לטוב.
