Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your newspaper clippings relating to 19 Kislev* and I thank you for them.

If it is still timely, it would be good to print in the Bitaon* (Bitaon Chabad*, the organ of the youth of the Chabad association in the Holy Land, volume no. 10, p. 16) the following passage: "Many have inquired about the practices that have recently been adopted by the Chassidim* on the day of their birthday (see letters no. 3579 and 4255). Enclosed, therefore, is an excerpt from a letter of the Rebbe shlita* on this subject." The signatory of the article should be the editorial board of the Bitaon*.

Excerpt from the letter of the Rebbe shlita*:

"You have informed me of your birthday. On this occasion, you will surely adopt the recent customs of the Chassidim*. You will therefore be called up to the Torah* on this day, if it is read, or on the preceding Shabbos*, if it is not. You will give tzedakah* before the Shacharis* and Minchah* prayers. If it is a Shabbos* or a festival, you will do so the day before. You will establish, on this day, an additional study of the revealed dimension of the Torah* and of Chassidus*, in addition to the three studies that concern each individual, instituted by my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us. These pertain to Chumash*, Tehillim*, and Tanya*, and are well known."

להודעתו אודות יום ההולדת שלו, בטח ינהג במנהג אנ"ש בזמן האחרון ביום ההולדת, עלי' לתורה, ביום זה עצמו אם הוא יום הקריאה (או בשבת שלפניו באם אינו יום הקריאה), נתינה לצדקה קודם תפלת שחרית ומנחה (ואם חל בש"ק או ביום טוב, אזי ביום שלפניו), ולימוד שיעור נוסף בתורת הנגלה ובתורת החסידות מלבד נוסף על שלשת השיעורים השוים לכל נפש מתקנת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע בחת"ת (חומש תהלים ותניא) הידועים, ללמדם ביום זה.
