Greetings and blessings,
I am responding to your letter of 19 Teves*, which reached me with some delay. You tell me that you do not see success in your communal activity and you complain about it.
You know how one should reason in such a case. It is perfectly obvious that if you cease your activities for any reason whatsoever, nothing will be accomplished. On the other hand, if you continue your efforts, it is certain that the promise of our holy masters will be fulfilled, according to which "an effort is never in vain." This is self-evident.
I am surprised that you say nothing in your letter about your work for the Talmud Torah* and the Beis Rivkah* (presumably the fundraising for these institutions), in keeping with the conversation we had here.
May Hashem grant that you convey good tidings of all the above, as well as of the health of your wife and your daughter.

במענה על מכתבו, מי"ט טבת - שנתאחר קצת דרך הילוכו - בו כותב ומתאונן על שאינו רואה הצלחה בעסקנותו וכו',
הנה כבר ידועה ההוראה בזה ובכגון דא, שדבר פשוט שכשיפסיק להתעסק בזה, מאיזה טעם שיהי', הרי בודאי לא יפעול כל ענין. משא"כ כשימשיך ההשתדלות בזה, הנה מוכרח שתקויים הבטחת רבותינו הק' חזקה לתעמולה שאינה חוזרת ריקם, וק"ל.
...לפלא שאינו מזכיר במכתבו דבר אודות ההשתדלות בעניני הת"ת וב"ר - מתאים למה שדברנו בהיותו כאן. והשי"ת יצליחו לבשר טובות בכל האמור, וכן בהנוגע לבריאות זוגתו ובתו תחיינה.
