To the members of the women's section
of Brownsville East New York
of the Yeshivos* Tomchei Temimim* Lubavitch*,
may Hashem grant you long life,

Blessings and greetings,

You have informed me that tomorrow, Wednesday of Parshas* Vaera*, — 27 Teves* — your annual banquet will take place, and I send you my response.

May Hashem grant that in this matter you experience success, both material and spiritual.

This banquet takes place during the week of Parshas* Vaera*, which deals with Egypt, with the manner in which they departed from it at that time, and also indicates how one can leave the Egypt of our era — freeing oneself from the exile and from all the constraints, material and spiritual, that it imposes.

Now, it is particularly important that women in general, and communal leaders in particular, remember the special merit and the specific mission entrusted to the Jewish woman, as well as the role they play in the exodus from Egypt — at that time and in the present.

Our Sages observe that "it was by the merit of the righteous women that our ancestors were liberated from Egypt." They were not frightened by the decrees of the king of Egypt, who wished to murder the Jewish children. Giving of themselves with self-sacrifice, they raised a generation of young Jews who subsequently proclaimed: "We will do and (then) we will understand" and who received the Torah*.

You work actively and with devotion on behalf of the Yeshivos* Tomchei Temimim* Lubavitch*, which were founded by my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us, and which train students who, throughout their lives, will say: "We will do and (then) we will understand" and will advance in the complete Torah* and the fear of Hashem.

I therefore have every hope that you will continue your work with even more submission and self-sacrifice.

May Hashem grant success to all of you, in this matter and in your personal needs, material and spiritual.

With my blessing,
