To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Chaim Shaul,

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter, in which you describe the financial situation of the yeshivah* (Achei Temimim* in Rishon LeTzion*), which is difficult. This is unfortunately the case with practically all Orthodox institutions, not only in the Holy Land but also in the United States.

It is surely unnecessary to remind you of the well-known letter of the Ramban*, recounting how, upon his arrival in Eretz Yisrael*, he observed that "the greater the holiness*... (the greater the destruction)." And the same applies outside of Eretz Yisrael*.

True, a shared misfortune is only a half consolation. Nevertheless, I wish to express my surprise at how discouraged you are by this situation. I am convinced that our holy master grants great success to all the yeshivos*, which, obviously, also includes that of Rishon LeTzion*.

I await your good tidings. Tell me that your morale is better and, consequently, that the situation has improved.

במענה על מכתבו במש"כ אודות המצב הכספי החמור של הישיבה, הנה בעוה"ר מצב כעין זה, לפ"ע, הוא בכל המוסדות החרדים, ולא רק באה"ק ת"ו אלא גם בארצוה"ב. ובודאי למותר להזכיר אודות אגרת הידועה של הרמב"ן כשבא לאה"ק ת"ו שכל הקדוש מחברו כו' וגם בחו"ל כן הוא עד"ז. ואף שמובן שצרת רבים רק חצי נחמה, לא באתי בזה אלא להביע תמיהתי שנופל ברוחו כ"כ מהמצב, ובטוח אני אשר נשיאנו הק' משפיע הצלחה מרובה בכל הישיבות, וגם זו שברשל"צ בכלל כמובן ופשוט, ואחכה לבשו"ט מהרמת הרוח ובמילא גם הטבת המצב.
