To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*, full of eagerness and efficiency, Rav Yitzchak,

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter, in which you request a recommendation for the project you are conducting regarding the compilation of the Poskim* (halachic decisors). It seems to me that I told you during our discussion that we do not have the practice of issuing such recommendations, in accordance with the custom established by my father-in-law, the Rebbe*.

Nevertheless, the interest and importance of compiling the Poskim* is quite evident, especially in this orphaned generation. On the one hand, tens of thousands of halachic* and pedagogical works have been burned and lost. On the other hand, the study aimed at establishing the halachah* concretely applicable, with its references and explanations, is increasingly diminished.

You may make my opinion known wherever you go. I am certain that the Chassidim* in each place will assist you in this.

במענה על מכתבו, בו כותב על דבר כתב המלצה בקשר עם הפעולה למען "אוצר הפוסקים", כמדומה לי שאמרתי לכת"ר בשעת שיחתנו שעל פי הסדר של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר - אין נהוג הנ"ל אצלנו.

לאידך גיסא, מובן גודל התועלת והנחיצות שבמפעל "אוצר הפוסקים", ובפרט בדורנו דור יתום זה, אשר - מצד אחד - נשרפו ונאבדו רבבות טופסים של ספרי הלכה והוראה, ומצד שני, הרי הלימוד לשם בירור פסק הדין, הלכה למעשה ובטעמה ובנימוקה, הולך ומתמעט ומתצמצם. והרשות ביד כת"ר למסור דעתי זו במקומות שיבקר, ובטוחני אשר אנ"ש שי' אשר שם יעזרו לו בזה.
