To the Rav, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs,

Rav Nissan (Rav N. Horowitz),

Greetings and blessings,

I received, in its time, your letter dating from before Rosh Hashanah*. The time at my disposal did not permit me to respond until now. In the meantime, you have surely received my letter wishing you a good year.

I took note with satisfaction of what you report about the Chassidic gathering* and the words of encouragement that were delivered there. Tishrei* is a month of comprehensive scope, conditioning the entire year. Our Sages explain that it is satiated with all the good, in order to reinforce the motivation, to clarify it, and above all to deepen it throughout the year. You have no doubt made proper use of it.

Admittedly, each day must have its specific content, and the Likkutei Torah*, at the end of Parshas Korach*, specifies the difference between the judgment of Rosh Hashanah* and the judgment that is pronounced each day. Nevertheless, one must first pass through the judgment of Rosh Hashanah* and through the principal month of the year — that of Tishrei*. The merit of the public comes to the aid of all those who devote themselves to this task.

I conclude in the words of the master, my father-in-law, the Rebbe [the Frierdiker Rebbe*], whose merit protects us, by wishing you a healthy winter, together with your wife, and success in all that has been said.

מכתבו מלפני ר"ה בעתו נתקבל, ולא היה הזמן גרמא לענות עליו עד עתה, ובודאי בינתים קבל מכתבי בברכת השנה.

נהניתי ממ"ש אודות ההתועדות ודברי התעוררות המדוברים אז, ובודאי ניצל ימי חדש תשרי שהוא חדש הכללי של כל השנה, ובלשון רז"ל מושבע בכל טוב לחזק ההתעוררות ולהוסיף בה, והעיקר שתומשך אח"כ על כל השנה, ואף שבכל יום ויום צ"ל עביד עבידתי' גם בזה, וע"ד המבואר בלקו"ת ס"פ קרח בחילוק הדין ומשפט דר"ה ואשר בכל יום, הנה מובן שלכל לראש צריך לעשות בזה בר"ה ובחדש הראשי של השנה שהוא חדש תשרי, וזכות הרבים מסייע לכל אלה המתעסקים בזה.
