Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter from the second day of Rosh Chodesh* Marcheshvan.

I was pleased to make the acquaintance of your son, a Chassid* who fears Hashem and conducts himself virtuously — Rav Raphael — and that of your grandson. May Hashem grant them long life. As you know, they visited me during the festival of Sukkos*.

In accordance with your request, the Chassidic discourse* entitled "As the Apple Among the Trees of the Forest" and the Kovetz Lubavitch*, published recently, have been sent to you in a separate mailing, along with the first part of the Tanya* in Yiddish.

I do not know whether you received the answer to the question you posed some time ago regarding the Sefer HaMaamarim 5703 (of the Frierdiker Rebbe*), page 180, third line, beginning with "above." I do not possess the original manuscript. In the Chassidic discourse* entitled "For the Candle Is a Mitzvah" of 5668 (by the Rebbe Rashab*, in Sefer HaMaamarim 5668, p. 72), it appears that one should read "in the same manner as" (this is indeed what the original manuscript says). On this subject, consult also the Or HaTorah* (on Parshas Bereishis*), page 291a.

שמחתי לקבל דו״ח מעבודתן ,ובטח כבר מתחילות לסדר את
ההכנות לחודש אלול והזמן שלאחר הקיץ ,שזה צריך להשפיע על כל
התכנית העתידית; כשלוקחים בחשבון שחודש אלול הרי הוא חודש
החשבון על כל השנה וחודש הרחמים ,המציב יהודי נבאופן כזה[ ,כך
שאחר־כך בראש השנה וחודש תשרי בכלל ,יוכל לקבל כתיבה וחתימה
טובה לעצמו ולכל בני ביתו.
וההכנה צריכה להיות בשני החלקים של הנהגת האדם ,כפי שמעשי
האדם נחלקים :חובות האדם לקב״ה )בין אדם למקום( ושל אנשים
לאנשים)בין אדם לחברו(.
שזו גם ההדגשה של שם החודש -אלו״ל ,כמבואר בספרים ,שהוא
ראשי-תיבות )א( אני לדודי ודודי לי ,שזה כולל כל הענינים שבין אדם
למקום ,ו)ב( איש לרעהו ומתנות לאביונים ,הם הענינים שבין אדם
לחברו.
וכאשר אדם עורך לעצמו חשבון אמיתי בשני החלקים של חיי
האדם ,עוזר בורא העולם שמעמיד עצמו בהחלטות טובות לימים,
שבועות וחודשים העתידים לבוא ואזי הם באים לטובה ולברכה עלינו
ועל כל ישראל.
בברכת הצלחה להגדיל את העבודה בהרחבה ובשמחה וכמובן
להגדיל גם את מספר החברות ככל האפשרי ,וכהוראת חכמינו זכרונם
לברכה הידועה שכל המקיים נפש אחת מישראל כאלו קיים עולם מלא.
