To the great Rav, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs,

Greetings and blessings,

I am surprised not to have heard from you since your letter of 19 Elul. The month that has just passed has a comprehensive scope, and it concerns the entire year. According to Chassidus* — as you know — this means that one can experience elevation during it. This month is satiated with all the good, as the Midrash* emphasizes.

Nevertheless, for this (to obtain this good), a person must put into practice the precept: "Open your mouth wide and I will fill it" — that is, to forge broad receptacles. Chassidus* emphasizes that this broadening is not only quantitative but also qualitative, which underscores that these receptacles are of an entirely different nature.

May Hashem grant that this be merely a deficiency in your correspondence, but not in concrete action, during this propitious period, with the inspiration that Tishrei* suggests. All of this will be revealed during the remainder of the year, with true breadth of spirit.

שלום וברכה!

לפלא שמאז מכ' מי"ט אלול, אין ממנו ידיעות, והרי החדש דאזלינן מני' (וכידוע הפירוש בדא"ח - שנעשים לבחי' מהלך) הוא חדש הכללי דכל השנה, ומושבע בכל טוב וכמפורש במדרש, אלא שעל האדם לקיים מה שנאמר הרחב פיך לעשות כלים רחבים, ומבואר בדא"ח שהם לא רק הרחבה כמות אלא גם הרחבה באיכות, היינו כלים מסוג אחר לגמרי, ויה"ר שלא יהי' בזה אלא חסרון בכתיבה אבל לא החסרון בהפועל בימי רצון והתעוררות דתשרי, ויומשכו על כל השנה כולה מתוך הרחבת הדעת אמיתית.
