To the great Rav, distinguished chassid who fears Hashem and dedicates himself to communal needs,

Rav Moshe Shapira, Atlantic City,

I greet and bless you,

Our friend, a remarkable educator, Rav Yaakov Hecht, one of the directors of the educational system and director of the department for the protection and development of proper education, a branch of Merkaz L'Inyanei Chinuch*, intends to visit your city in order to establish Shi'urei Limudei HaDat* — a religious studies hour in the public schools, every Wednesday.

You are surely aware of the work of Merkaz L'Inyanei Chinuch in general and of this department in particular, which provides free religious instruction to nearly ten thousand children in secular schools.

These achievements have, thank Hashem, seen remarkable growth and they make it necessary to mobilize substantial resources. Our difficult financial situation compels us to travel to your city in order to obtain assistance so that this great institution, unique in the field of education, does not falter — Heaven forbid.

I therefore wish to ask you to give a warm welcome to Rav Y. Hecht, and to use your influence to assist him. I know that your time is much occupied due to your communal responsibilities, but I am certain that you are attentive to the importance of this educational endeavor, and that you will spare no effort to help with this great and important mitzvah*, which concerns thousands of children.

ידידנו המחנך המצוין הרב ר' יעקב שי' העכט, מעסקני החנוך ומנהל מחלקת מגיני ומרחיבי החנוך הכשר אשר על-יד המרכז לעניני חנוך, מתעתד לבוא למחנו הט' לעשות ולפעול לטובת ענין השל"ה ( ש עורי ל ימוד ה דת - "מיטוואך-שעה").

עבודת המל"ח בכלל ומחלקה זו בפרט - אשר על ידה כעשרת אלפים בני ובנות ישראל כ"י של הפאבליק סקולס מקבלים שעורי דת חנם - בטח ידוע לכת"ר שי'. עבודה זו אשר ת"ל גדלה והתרחבה מאד מאד דורשת אמצעים גדולים, והמצב הכספי הדחוק מאלצו לבוא למחנו להרים עזרה ממשית למען אשר מוסד גדול ויחידי זה בשדה החנוך הכשר לא יתמוטט ח"ו.

אי לזאת באתי לבקש את כת"ר שי' לקבל את הר"י שי' העכט בספ"י ולהושיט לו יד עזר כגודל השפעתו. והגם שמשער אני גודל טרדותיו המרובות לרגלי עבודתו הצבורית, בטוח אני שלבו ער לגודל ערך עבודה חינוכית זו ולא ימנע מלהיות אחיעזר במצוה גדולה ורמה זו הנוגעת בנפש אלפי בני ובנות ישראל. ותודתי אמורה לו מראש.
