To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*,

Rav H. H.[1],

I greet you and bless you,

I have duly received your letters of 5 Nissan* and 17 Sivan*. In the meantime, you have no doubt yourself received mine, dated 14 Nissan*[2], and the Pesach* booklet enclosed with it. I now reply to your letters:

A) It appears that the opening of Rav C. Glitsenstein's[3] article on the Mitteler Rebbe*[3] was printed in the Kislev* 5708 issue of the Yehadut journal. It is unfortunate that readers should encounter the several errors it contains, in particular the claim that the Alter Rebbe* concerned himself solely with the spirituality of his Chassidim*, whereas in fact a large portion of his time, energy, and effort was devoted to their economic situation. Moreover, he himself traveled throughout the land to collect funds for this purpose. One knows what he said in response to this[4]. Furthermore, the article implies that the agricultural settlement campaign was launched by the Mitteler Rebbe* — yet such settlements existed before his time. What is more, the Alter Rebbe*, from his marriage and throughout his entire leadership of the Chassidim*, also encouraged agricultural work among his disciples. It was in this way that the agricultural settlements of Belarus were established. A booklet to be published shortly will describe at length the communal activity of the Alter Rebbe*. The conscription order*[5] was issued in the year of the Mitteler Rebbe*'s passing — that is, many years after this campaign for the promotion of agricultural activity was introduced. This is not what one understands from a quick reading of this article.

B) Please transmit to Rav P. T. Mendelsohn five pounds, drawn from the Merkaz L'Inyanei Chinuch* funds in your possession.

C) Enclosed are a booklet and a letter[6] published on the occasion of 12 Tammuz*. The booklet is being sent by ordinary mail.

D) Please let me know what has become of my close relative Pinchas Landau and all the members of his family.

E) Please convey to Rav H. A. Naeh*[7] the reply to the question he posed to me through Rav Telushkin. I cannot promise him that his notes*[8] will be in my possession before the end of the printing of the Shulchan Aruch*, since I do not know how long it will take for them to reach me. However, I do not understand what bearing this has, since he has in any case decided to publish them himself. He should therefore prepare them for printing, and in this instance it is enough that he do so as quickly as possible. If he sends me his notes, it would be good for him to send two copies, since the Shulchan Aruch* is not printed here[9]. It is therefore preferable that I keep one and send the second to the printing house.

פקודת הגיוס לצבא ניתנה בשנת הסתלקות אדהאמ"צ היינו הרבה שנים (קודם) [אחר] ההצעה שפרסם ולא כמשמע משטחיות המאמר.

ג) מטובו ליתן להרפ"צ מנדלזאהן חמש ליט' מהנמצא אצלו השייך למל"ח.

ד) מוסג"פ קונט' ומכ' לי"ב תמוז. הקונ' נשלח בדואר הרגיל.
