To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, devotes himself to communal needs, and carries out a sacred mission, Rav Moshe HaKohen (1),

Greetings and blessings,

I have received your letter from the thirteenth day of the month of mercy (2).

You tell me about your housing problem. The Rav, distinguished Chassid who fears Hashem, devotes himself to communal needs, of many accomplishments and fine character, Rav Ch. M. A. Hadakov (3) has surely already conveyed to you my opinion that you should take counsel from three Chassidic friends who know the conditions of the place where you are and the various neighborhoods of Chicago. They will tell you what should be done. May Hashem suggest the right idea to them.

I send you a pamphlet on Elul. No doubt you will make its content available to the widest number. The merit of the public depends on you.

I extend my blessing for good health and success in your communal activities, for the Name of Hashem. Consult the formulation of the Alter Rebbe* in his Shulchan Aruch*, chapter 70 (4), paragraph 4, which says: "Even if he only saves their material possessions (5)." How much more so when one can use one's influence within the synagogue to develop Torah* study — both the revealed dimension and Chassidus* — and for the giving of tzedakah*, which is fundamental and essential.

On the occasion of the new year which approaches, for us and for all of Israel, for good and for blessing, I extend my blessing, to you and to all of yours, that you be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year, materially and spiritually.

I have just received your letter of 20 Elul. Regarding your state of health, all the doctors agree that a decision will need to be taken later, when Hashem will have already inscribed and sealed you for a good year (6). For now, therefore, forget all of this.

I enclose a receipt for the first check. Please let me know to which fund the other checks in your letter should be directed.

ולקראת השנה החדשה הבאה עלינו ועל כל ישראל לטובה ולברכה הנני בזה להביע ברכתי לו ולכל אשר לו, ברכת כתיבה וחתימה טובה לשנה טובה ומתוקה בגשמיות וברוחניות.
