To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Shmuel Chaim (1),
Greetings and blessings,
I am responding to your letter from the eve of 18 Elul, with what was enclosed. It is quite obvious that it is forbidden to travel on an Israeli ship that sails during Shabbos* and whose crew is Jewish (2).
Furthermore, I do not approve of a trip being organized in such a way that one must be on the ship during the Ten Days of Teshuvah*, Yom Kippur*, Sukkos*, or even part of this period. It is preferable to opt for another arrangement.
On the occasion of the new year which approaches, for us and for all of Israel, for good and for blessing, I extend my blessing, to you and to all of yours, that you be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year, materially and spiritually.

שלום וברכה!
במענה על מכתבו מאור לח"י אלול עם הפ"נ המוסגר בו. הנה פשיטא שאין לנסוע באני' ישראלית הנוסעת גם בשבת ומלחי' הם בני ישראל וכו', וג"כ אין דעתי נוחה מסדר נסיעה באופן שיוצרכו להיות בספינה בעשי"ת יוהכ"פ וחג הסוכות ואפילו חלק מימים אלו, ואיך שיסדרו באופן אחר מהנ"ל, יהי' טוב יותר.
ולקראת השנה החדשה הבאה עלינו ועל כל ישראל לטובה ולברכה, הנני בזה להביע ברכתי לו ולכל אשר לו, ברכת כתיבה וחתימה טובה לשנה טובה ומתוקה בגשמיות וברוחניות.
