To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Shneur Zalman (1),

Greetings and blessings,

You say that according to the Rebbe Rashab* (2), there must be two openings in the lower part of the Mikveh*, between the two basins situated one above the other. You yourself enumerate the possible reasons for this, the most obvious being that if, for whatever reason, the first opening becomes blocked, the second must ensure that the Mikveh remains kosher*. It is known, indeed, that in everything pertaining to a Mikveh, one always strives to practice in the best possible manner.

You mention the printing of the Shulchan Aruch*, with commentaries and notes. Unfortunately, I do not have the time to attend to this myself in the manner that would be appropriate. Nevertheless, I have asked those who devote themselves to this whether they have commentaries and notes to add. Obviously, I do not refer to questions, but to explanations obtained by comparing references.

I have said that all of this should be sent here, and depending on how the printing proceeds, it may be possible to incorporate them. The merit of all depends on this. Obviously, if you yourself have such notes, please send them here, if possible written clearly and only on the front side of each page.

I have kept what you wrote to me about the Shulchan Aruch of the Alter Rebbe*. Nevertheless, in that text, you pose questions, and one does not find therein what has been described above.

... במ"ש אשר כ"ק אדמו"ר (מוהרש"ב) נ"ע רוצה שיהי' שני נקבים בתחתית המקוה שבין שתי המקואות הנמצאות זו ע"ג זו, הרי גם בעצמו מעורר ע"ד טעמים האפשרים, והפשוט ביותר שאם מאיזה טעם יתמעט נקב אחד הנה השני יכשיר המקואות, וכידוע אשר בעניני מקוה מהדרין ככל האפשרי.

במ"ש אודות הדפסת שו"ע עם ביאורים והערות, הנה לדאבוני אין זמני בידי לעסוק בזה כדבעי ובעצמי, אלא שעוררתי את איזה מהעוסקים במקצוע זה שאם יש אצלם הערות קצרות, ומובן אשר אין הכוונה לקושיות אלא אדרבה לביאור ולהארה ממקום למקום ישלחום לכאן, ובהתאם לאופן ההדפסה אולי תהי' אפשריות להדפיסם ג"כ וזכות הרבים תלוי בהם, ומובן שאם אצל כת"ר ישנם בכגון דא נא לשלוח לכאן, ומה טוב כתובים בכתב ברור ומצד אחד של גליון. ומ"ש לי כת"ר בנוגע לשו"ע רבנו הזקן, נשמר אצלי, אבל שם קושיות ולא כהנ"ל.

ולקראת השנה החדשה הבאה עלינו ועל כל ישראל לטובה ולברכה, הנני בזה להביע ברכתי לו ולכל אשר לו, ברכת כתיבה וחתימה טובה לשנה טובה ומתוקה בגשמיות וברוחניות.
