Greetings and blessings,

Here is the subject of this letter. You surely remember your letter regarding vacations (1). You told me that it would not be possible to retain the students at the Yeshivah* at the end of Elul and during the Ten Days of Teshuvah* (2) if they had not had a summer vacation.

Basing yourself on this idea and on this assessment of the situation, you sent hundreds of students on vacation for some time. Their Torah* study was surely affected, and may Hashem grant that the same was not true regarding their observance of the mitzvos*.

You granted these vacations wholeheartedly, and you will therefore fulfill with the same feeling the second part of your obligation — that of maintaining the study program during the end of Elul and the Ten Days of Teshuvah.

With my blessing that you give good and detailed news of all of this, and that you be inscribed and sealed for a good year,

... ועל של עתה ועיקר באתי, כי בודאי זוכרים הם תוכן מכתבם ע"ד החופש - אשר אי אפשר יהי' לעכב התלמידים בשילהי אלול ועשי"ת וכו' בהישיבה אם לא יתנו להם חופש בזמן הקיץ, ועל יסוד השערה וקס"ד זו, הנה נתנו חופש למאות תלמידים לכמה זמן, אשר בודאי חסר הי' בלימודם תורה (והלואי שלא הי' חסרון גם בקיום המצות).

וכמו שנתנו החופש בלבב שלם - הרי בטח יכירו בהמוטל עליהם לקיים החלק השני בהנוגע להסדרים בשילהי אלול ועשי"ת וכו'.

בברכה לבשורות טובות ומפורטות בכל האמור לעיל ולכתיבה ולחתימה טובה.
