To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Yechiel Michel Yehuda Leib (1),
Greetings and blessings,
I am responding to your letter from the first day of Rosh Chodesh* Elul, and I await the continuation of the good news you report therein. Concerning what you say about the study days (2), if this is in accordance with the conditions practiced in the Holy Land, perhaps it would be good to schedule them during Chol HaMoed Sukkos*, during the time of our rejoicing.
I was pleased by what you say about the seminar for the study of Chassidus*. No doubt a few minutes are devoted there also to discussing the atmosphere of Chassidus, in particular the study of its teachings, the practice of its customs and usages during the days that follow. For in the end, that is indeed the essential thing.
I am surprised that you do not speak of the extensive activities of the young people of the Chabad* association, and that you are also so brief regarding those of the Chabad women. May Hashem grant that this is merely an omission in your letter and not an actual deficiency, Heaven forbid. May Hashem grant you success in giving me good news in this domain as well.
I have received issues 22 through 24 of Machanayim*. The first letter, responding to the article on mixed dancing, is dreadful. Is it possible that there was no reaction (3)? It would be good to reproduce, as they stand, excerpts from the Yearos Devash*, specifying the reference and page, and then to ask the editor to publish them, accompanied by a simple question: How, after the Sages of the recent generations, accepted as Decisors* by all Jews, have expressed themselves in so decisive a manner, can one still cast doubt on their opinion, or envision that it might be otherwise — even if one were unaware of the well-known consequences of these mixed dances?
With my blessing that you be inscribed and sealed for a good year and that you give good news regarding all of this,
For the Rebbe Shlita*,
(1) Rav Y. M. Y. L. Zalmanov, of the Holy Land. See, regarding him, Letter #3712.
(2) For soldiers of Tzahal*.
(3) The Rebbe notes at the bottom of the page: "I have just received issues 25 through 27 of Machanayim. In the first, I saw the letter of Rav Y. Lachover." Indeed, in a letter entitled "Supplement on mixed dancing," Rav Lachover establishes, from various references, that mixed dances are forbidden.
